Zim Brott was a male Bolian Starfleet enlisted crewmember during the late-24th century. Brott had a wife and co-husband on Bolarus IX, as well as two children.

From 2370 until his death in 2375, Brott served as a petty officer on the Bajoran space station Deep Space 9. His quarters on DS9 were located in section H43 of the habitat ring. Among others, he met Jadzia Dax.

In 2375, Brott was the third Starfleet officer murdered by a Vulcan science officer named Chu'lak, who shot him through the heart using a TR-116 rifle. Like the previous victims, Brott had been targeted because there was a photograph of him laughing in his quarters. (DS9: "Field of Fire")

Appendices[]

Background information[]

Brott was played by background actor Chris Kelly, who received no credit for his appearance.

The script for "Field of Fire" describes Brott's quarters as "lived-in and disorderly. Stacks of PADDs are piled up on the table and clothes are scattered around the room." Of the photograph on his desk, it describes, "a happy Brott, his arms around two lovely children." [1]

Brott's rank is the only time a "petty officer" has been referenced in dialogue, even though there have been numerous chief petty officers. The only other reference to petty officer grades was in Robert Fletcher's uniform designs for the Star Trek films, which featured a variety of enlisted insignia.

Apocrypha[]

In the novella Saturn's Children, Brott's mirror universe counterpart (β) and his medic wife served in Cal Hudson's Terran Rebellion cell. Zim later assumed the role of executive officer of Hudson's newly constructed Defiant-class warship with the rank of commander. He, his wife, Hudson and many other rebels died when the Empok Nor shipyard was destroyed.

Brott's daughter, Danna Brott, appears as the captain of the Federation transport ship SS Azura in the video game Star Trek Online. When the Azura is attacked by Orions, the player is tasked with rescuing her, but not before the ship is destroyed by a warp core breach. Danna later goes on to command the SS Azura II, a merchant ship the player can summon for supplies. However, if the player is trained in engineering, the Azura can be saved.
