World War I, also referred to as The Great War, was a conflict fought mainly in Europe on Earth during the early 20th century. The Central Powers – Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empires and Germany – were opposed by France and Russia and their Allies, Italy and the British and Japanese Empires. In 1917, the fourth year of the war, Russia was embroiled in a series of revolutions and sued for peace with the Central Powers, while the USA entered the war against them.
When John Gill named himself the Führer of Ekos, he wore a World War I vintage Iron Cross as one of his Nazi decorations (TOS: "Patterns of Force"). After Jonathan Archer restored a damaged timeline, scenes from World War I could be seen in the time stream as the timeline realigned itself. (ENT: "Storm Front, Part II")
In describing the carnage of Earth's first three world wars, Spock noted that six million died in this war. (TOS: "Bread and Circuses")
