Willie Mays baseball card

A Willie Mays baseball card

Willie Mays was an American baseball player, who played for the New York (later San Francisco) Giants.

In 2373, Jake Sisko and Nog got into trouble while trying to cheer up Benjamin Sisko by attempting to acquire a mint-condition 1951 Willie Mays rookie baseball card in an auction. Their quest for the card brought them into contact with Winn Adami, Elias Giger, and Weyoun. After the two came to the attention of the Dominion and were detained by Weyoun, Jake claimed that Mays was a time traveler and it was their mission to apprehend them. Weyoun did not buy the story and let the two go. (DS9: "In the Cards")

The baseball player Willie Hawkins, whom Captain Sisko envisioned in his "Benny Russell" vision in DS9: "Far Beyond the Stars", shared many similarities to Mays, including having been a top player who played in the same position at the same time for the same team, and references contemporaries of Mays.
