For the ship, please see USS White Sands.
White Sands was a 20th century area of land used as a weapons-range in New Mexico, in the nation-state of the United States of America.
In 1957, White Sands, New Mexico was the location of an atomic bomb test. When zero hour arrived, it was aired on national television.
Mestral and Maggie were watching the test on television in the Pine Tree, and talked about how they hoped Humanity wouldn't annihilate themselves. (ENT: "Carbon Creek")
According to the script for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Regula I space station was described as a futuristic White Sands.
