New Vulcan was a Vulcan colony founded by Spock as a home for the 10,000 survivors of Vulcan, following the destruction of their home planet by Nero in 2258 in the alternate reality. That universe's Spock thought that, logically, he should resign his commission in Starfleet to help, but his older self urged him to stay in Starfleet. (Star Trek; Star Trek Into Darkness)
