- This is the first story not based on an episode of the original series. It was initially solicited as "The Vendetta Conspiracy".
- The deleted Rura Penthe subplot from Star Trek is utilized, with the three-faced alien - dubbed Quocch - making an appearance. Quocch was previously named by Johnson in Star Trek: Nero.
