Virginia was a state located on the Atlantic coast of the North American continent of Earth. This was a state in the United States of America. The border states were Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Washington, DC. One of its cities was Richmond. It was one of the original thirteen states of the United States, and was mentioned in Article I of the United States Constitution. (TOS: "The Omega Glory"; DS9: "Little Green Men"; ENT: "Storm Front", "Storm Front, Part II")

In an alternate version of 1944, Armory Officer Malcolm Reed discovered that battles had been fought in Virginia between the Nazi/Na'kuhl alliance and the American resistance. This evidence led to the realization that Enterprise had traveled to an alternate timeline where Starfleet did not exist. Later, Allied forces launched heavy air bombing against southern Virginia and eastern Pennsylvania as part of a counteroffensive. (ENT: "Storm Front", "Storm Front, Part II")

Omega IV[]

On the planet Omega IV, this was one of the states of a parallel United States. It was mentioned in Article I of their Constitution. (TOS: "The Omega Glory")

Retroactive continuity: Maps of North America showing parts of Maryland in relation to Washington, DC were downloaded from the USS Enterprise library computer by the Talosians in 2254. (TOS: "The Cage") These maps were from educational texts available at the time of filming, 1964.

Virginia was named on a map of the United States (Die Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika). The contours of this state were seen on a map of the United States in "Little Green Men".

Something from "...er, Virginia" was also seen advertised on the door of Johnnies Market in "Carbon Creek", though the whole sign could not be seen.

An additional Virginia location, Bull Run, was referenced in a longer version of Jack R. Crusher's holographic message contained in the script of the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Family".
