Verterium is an element used in verterium cortenide, an alloy utilized by the Federation in the construction of the inner layer of the warp coils found in Intrepid-class engine nacelles.

The planet Hemikek, in the Delta Quadrant, was "quite rich in minerals" according to Neelix, who thought that USS Voyager could acquire some verterium and cortenum from the consortium of non-aggressive people who own the mining rights on that planet. (VOY: "Investigations")
