Velik was a Vulcan scientist. He visited Charles Tucker's tenth grade biology class to teach them about life on other worlds. Tucker had never seen a Vulcan up close before Velik, who at the time, "scared the hell out of" him.

One of Velik's sayings was "Challenge your preconceptions, or they'll challenge you", recalled by Tucker after the incident on the planet later known as Archer IV involving tropolisine-laced pollen. (ENT: "Strange New World")
