Vega in relation to Pollux IV, Jouret IV, Rigel and Organia

The Vega system is a star system. (TOS: "The Cage") The location of the Vega system was seen on a Federation star chart displayed in astrometrics on the USS Voyager. The system was shown in relation to Pollux IV, Jouret IV, Rigel, and Organia. (VOY: "Child's Play", "The Haunting of Deck Twelve")

This system was home to the Vega Colony. This colony had been established by Earth some time prior to 2126. (ENT: "Broken Bow", TOS: "The Cage")

In 2126, Travis Mayweather (later of the Enterprise NX-01) was born aboard the ECS Horizon half way between Vega and Draylax (ENT: "Broken Bow")

In an alternate timeline, Vega colony in the system was wiped out by the Xindi following the destruction of Earth in 2154. (ENT: "Twilight")

In 2254, the USS Enterprise planned to make use of the medical facilities at the Vega colony to take care of the crew injured on Rigel VII and replace the personnel who needed hospitalization. (TOS: "The Cage")

This system had a parallel counterpart in the mirror universe. Prior to 2267, in the mirror universe, Captain James Kirk had 5,000 colonists on Vega IX executed. (TOS: "Mirror, Mirror")

Background

In the Star Trek: Star Charts, on page 36, the Vega system was identified as Vega (Alpha Lyrae), and was depicted as being in the Alpha Quadrant. The star was classified as a blue giant. This system was the terminus on the Earth-Vega space lane in 2378. Two centuries earlier, as depicted on page 44, Vega was a major destination on the Earth trade routes. Along with conducting trade with Earth, Vega had commercial trading with Draylax (Epsilon Indii). By 2378, as shown in United Federation of Planets I, the ninth planet of this system, known either as Vega IX or the Vega Colony, was listed as a member planet.

Apocrypha

In the 1977 children's storybook The Prisoner of Vega, Klingons capture Queen Vanadala of Vega III and take over her planet.

In the game Star Trek Online, released in 2010, the Vega system was the site of a renewed Borg attack in 2409, and where the tutorial takes place.
