The Vedek Assembly is the governing body of the Bajoran religion and holds great political influence as well. The Assembly is led by the Kai, the leading religious figure on Bajor.

In 2369 Commander Benjamin Sisko asked Vedek Bareil to grant him an audience with the Assembly to discuss the school problem aboard Deep Space 9. Bareil refused and told Sisko that the Assembly feared him because of his role as Emissary of the Prophets, his position as Starfleet commander, and because Vedek Winn told them to. (DS9: "In the Hands of the Prophets")

Jaro Essa intended to direct the Vedek Assembly to name Winn Adami as Kai twenty-six hours after he was sworn into office as part of his coup d'etat against the Bajoran Provisional Government. (DS9: "The Siege")

The Vedek Assembly endorsed the Bajoran-Cardassian Treaty, and defrocked Vedeks who publicly disagreed with that position. Vedek Yarka was one person so defrocked. (DS9: "Destiny")

In late 2375, Winn Adami canceled an appearance before the Assembly. What was unknown at the time was that she had turned away from the Prophets and had embraced the Pah-wraith. (DS9: "The Changing Face of Evil")
