Pic of the Day calendar Edit

Firstly, a happy new year to you. Returning in a few days.

I have noticed that the Pic of the Day calendar still holds last year's choices. Will it be cleared? Also, 2008 is a leap year, so Feb 29th needs to be put in.

Many happy returns,

Watching... listening... 04:11, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

They can probably be changed, but I don't think it's completely necessary. And a happy New Year to you, as well. :) --From Andoria with Love 12:50, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

I just wanted to say the reason I added that the ensign prayed when she genuflected is because she stayed down for longer than is usual to simply genuflect and Captain Kirk and her husband were visibly waiting for her to finish. This is a Catholic tradition where a person genuflects but does not rise immediately because they are praying. I wasn't trying to add information based on POV-- Preator 09:08, January 3, 2008

Sherry JacksonEdit

You left a note asking to be reminded about giving Sherry Jackson a once-over, upon looking at the article and the picture, I think we should be inclined to do her twice. -- Captain MKB 13:20, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

o_O Not that I don't agree, but... damn, boy, lol! Anyway, thanks for the reminder. ;) --From Andoria with Love 13:23, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Archiving discussions. Edit

How do you do that?– Watching... listening... 01:36, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

He moves all the content he wants to archive to a subpage that acts like an archive. The subpage's name is often [[user:xxx/archive(indexnumber, like number of the archive or a year)]]. Good for keeping your talkpages not to big. -- Rom Ulan 01:40, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Ah. Thank you.– Watching... listening... 20:18, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Sorry Edit

About the DS9 cast images I uploaded...sorry about it-I should have read the policy-and it won't happen again. JemHadar359

No worries, mate. Mistakes happen. I should know, I make them all the time. ;) --From Andoria with Love 02:33, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

HiEdit

Hi

thanks for being friendly - i came here after being hurt badly in another forum just for being female - i hope the Star Trek wiki is much nicer. Scout Finch 08:23, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

CBS/Paramount/ViacomEdit

Hey :-), I was adding the info since I assume that the details of what is CBS / Paramount / Viacom could use some explanation. I certainly found it convoluted until I had read at least half-a-dozen pages on the topic. I also find it interesting that the entire thing is controlled by one person (Sumner Redstone) through the holding company National Amusements. —MJBurrage(TC) 23:33, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Also, do you know when CBS Paramount Television switched to CBS Paramount Network Television? —MJBurrage(TC) 23:38, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Hey there. I think what's on the page now provides sufficient explanation as to what CBS Paramount Network Television is. Explaining the company's divisions didn't really seem necessary. If others feel differently at Talk:CBS Paramount Network Television, though, then it should be re-added. As for the change in name, I wasn't even aware of it until you moved the article to the new name, lol! --From Andoria with Love 23:56, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Actually, according to this page and this page, among several other sources, CBS Paramount Network Television is a part of CBS Paramount Television. --From Andoria with Love 00:03, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Pathways Edit

I understand all novels are considered non-canon on MA, but I think this is a mistake with regards to Pathways by Jeri Taylor.

Consider this. She co-created Voyager and its characters. Therefore these are her characters. Therefore is she or another co-creator not the best person to write about them and their early histories before joining the ship's crew? Since they are hers, what she says about their early histories should be considered canon, don't you think? This isn't some writer who decided to write a Voyager novel about the characters; this is one of the creators of the characters themselves. If Gene Roddenberry had penned such a novel about the TOS characters, I certainly do not think that would have been considered non-canon.

I further quote from MA's Background Information section of the MA article on the book:

Pathways was considered canon by the writers and producers of Star Trek: Voyager following its publication. Many of its plot details made their way into episodes. However, like "Mosaic", it has been superseded in some cases by events in later seasons.

Of course, what is seen onscreen is to be considered canon above all else, but for events in the chracters' early histories that the show says nothing about, I think (as MA's article clearly supports) that this book and others such as Mosaic, which fall into the same category, should be considered a canon resource–the only, and I stress that word–ONLY such books.

Just something to think about.– Watching... listening... 12:13, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

You may want to bring this up in a forum, since it involves a possible exception to our current canon policy. Another place to bring it up would the canon policy's talk page. --From Andoria with Love 00:13, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

OK. Done on the canon policy talk page.– Watching... listening... 20:52, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Performer vs. stunt performer Edit

Hey Shran. I saw you changed the category for Ms. Weathersby. When I add the category Performers (Movies performers/ ENT performers etc.) I would say they have screen time. Any stunt performer (including stunt doubles and stunt actors) have screen time. So they are performers (on screen). In the last months I've always added the category to all stuntwomen and stuntmen who "only" served as stunt doubles. They have screen time and are "performers". Is it nitpicking when we add the stunt doubles to the list of Roles with multiple performers? Have a nice day. – Tom 12:02, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

The Movies performers category was created for people acting in a Star Trek film. The Stunts performers cat was created for people who perform stunts in film. If a person did both within a Trek movie then they get both categories, but adding both categories otherwise is redundant. If that was the case, we wouldn't have a separate stunts performers cat. They only get a Movies performers category if they actually act in a Star Trek film; whether they act in other films is irrelevant. Sorry if this doesn't make 100% sense, I'm close to collapsing. :P --From Andoria with Love 12:11, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
No opinion on the Roles with multiple performers page at the moment. --From Andoria with Love 12:50, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Just a comment Edit

Hey Shran. Bad to hear about Brad Renfro. He was a good actor. Thank you for the sentence on my talk page. Its good to read that. Sometimes I think I am nerve racking people with my "actor and stunt performer" stuff. ;o] – Tom 10:21, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Wednesday Mourning Edit

Hey Shran. Could you please delete the redirect for Wednesday Mourning? I've got an e-mail back from her and she confirmed her involvement in the new film. 100 % sure. Thank you. Who's the next ...??? ;o] – Tom 19:08, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Star Trek WelderEdit

According to "Johncareytrek" on YouTube, Anthony Vitale played the main guy in the Star Trek teaser trailer. His MySpace Page also implies involvement. Maybe you should look into this.--Tim Thomason 01:40, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

That's definitely him. I'd recognize that mug anywhere, lol! I've contacted Anthony about it but I'm about 99% sure it's him, so I'll create the article for him. :) --From Andoria with Love 01:48, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

By the way, the article's all yours. I gave up trying to match your actor-article writing skills in November 2005 (after Oliver McGowan). I was just doing a joke implying my name should show up in the history. And I assumed he belonged in that category (although I can think of why he might not yet belong).--Tim Thomason 03:18, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Ah, ok. Roger that, lol! His interview should be up sometime tomorrow. btw, there's nothing wrong with McGowan's page; it's all in your head, lad. ;) --From Andoria with Love 08:05, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Oh, I know there's nothing wrong with the McGowan page. It's perfect, and matches and surpasses some of yours. But the work was too hard on my progressively lazy editing ability. I'll await the interview passively.--Tim Thomason 18:54, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

HELP!!!! Edit

This genius, 76.243.195.214, created an article called poop can you take care of it?--UESPA 05:03, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Production staffEdit

All done. Down to 87 articles. And there's a "Stunt department" category now for riggers, coordinators, fight choreographers (but not regular choreographers), etc. -- Sulfur 15:43, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Looks good. Thanks for doing all that. A great, thorough job, as always. :) --From Andoria with Love 15:49, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

As always.

I also let ThomasHL know about the new category tree too, since he creates a lot of production articles. -- Sulfur 15:54, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

SciFi Wiki Edit

Hi, I'm an admin on the SciFi Wiki and I was wondering if you could suggest a way to get users from this wiki to help out there. Thanks. (Oh, and thanks for taking care of that idiotic article)--UESPA 03:15, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

The best way (that I can think of) is to join MA's IRC chat now and then and spread the word there. That way, you can let people on MA know about the project while keeping it off-site since it doesn't really have anything to do with this project. ;) I hope that helps, and good luck with the wiki! :) --From Andoria with Love 04:02, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks--UESPA 23:25, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olson Edit

Gvsualan Edit

Do you have any idea just what's up with him? He's got a HUGE chip on his shoulder of late. It's almost like it's another person entirely on his account, compared to the user I'm familiar with.

He needs to settle down, or leave again for good...I don't appreciate getting snapped at for simply questioning his edits, and I'm sure others doen't either.Capt Christopher Donovan 06:52, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Alan may still be pissed after this little debacle. The thing is, Alan has done a lot of good work as well as a lot of controversial work, but it seems to be his controversial stuff that gets any attention. It particularly pisses him off when it's something that he never meant to be controversial, especially when it was intention to improve something. A little bit of criticism is one thing, but complaints seem to be following Alan wherever he goes. In some cases I can understand the complaints, but there are many cases where I think people are just looking for something to complain about. The main thing is, many people have been questioning many of his edits, and Alan believes (at least in many of the cases) there is no cause for it. As for his attitude, Alan has always been sarcastic by nature. I don't believe he's ever insulted or offended anybody, though (as in resorting to name calling, etc.) You're right, his attitude in that post (I'm assuming you're talking about this) is far from admin-like, but if I was Alan and I believed I was doing good things for Memory Alpha only to have people constantly complain about them... I'd be a little snippy, too. ;) Note that I'm not agreeing with his actions (I'm not Alan, I handle criticism a bit more light-heartedly, lol!), I'm just trying to give you the view from the other side of the fence... as it were. :P --From Andoria with Love 07:59, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the information...it just seemed like he was an entirely different person lately. Being an Admin must sometimes be a thankless job I'm sure.Capt Christopher Donovan 10:53, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Off Topic Question Edit

I know you help out at TrekMovie.com so I'll ask you this here since emails are blocked also on trekmovie.com. I've been blocked on TrekMovie.com for 2 months now because I was talking to myself on the Science Saturday article. The message said ″TPol and TrekkyStar banned for week.″ Well it has been 2 months I realize I should not talk to myself like that now. I learned my lesson. I don't know if you can do anything. TrekkyStar 18:27, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, spamming's not a good thing to do in a forum. ;) I'll talk to Anthony about it, but I won't guarantee anything. --From Andoria with Love 20:57, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

StarTrek.com Edit

I noticed that StarTrek.com a page for itself. Is it ok to make one for "trekmovie.com". The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.177.116.119 (talk).

Nope. StarTrek.com is an official Paramount webpage. TrekMovie.com is not. We decided some time ago that only official Paramount pages would get articles, since we're not a "links" site. -- Sulfur 14:44, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

HowdyEdit

I noticed that your fave episode is "In a Mirror, Darkly". It's mine to, have you made any contributions to the mirror universe memory alpha? I've been working on it some for the last few days. Interesting site, although I tend to add...to much detail. --Terran Officer 23:34, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

I haven't edited on the mirror universe site since it was first launched. Glad you're enjoying it and glad that it has readers and editors. :) --From Andoria with Love 00:52, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

It is pretty cool, my only problem is writing the ship articles, what to put in them? :P I noticed the ship articles on this site seems to mention major events of the sorts, and not what everyone did during a certain thing. Is that how it should be written there to? I try and read the other pages for ideas on how to write it and get all blah :P --Terran Officer 02:20, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

I would assume the rules over there would be the same as they are here. Then again, it is the mirror universe wiki. ;) That said, I'm not familiar with any of the policies on that wiki. --From Andoria with Love 03:04, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

I was trying to put the copyright think on it, but it didn't let me edit and I know I'm not blocked. But some already did it :) 67.177.116.119 04:14, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Hm... you're right, you're not blocked so it should be allowing you to edit. Is there a message that pops up when you edit? And if so, what does it say? --From Andoria with Love 04:17, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
I might suggest not using the "upload image" button on the edit screen first of all. Upload using the link in the left-hand column. And fill in the description field with the text you want to have on the image article. I added the copyright notice, but that's the least important bit on screen shots. It's the "what is this, and where did it come from" that's important. -- Sulfur 04:19, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Yes, there's a pop up that wants me to use a program that I don't have? It's a picture program?TrekkyStar 04:30, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
You have two options here. Write down the exact words, or take a screenshot and put it on a free imagehost. Otherwise... we can't really help you... unless you're choosing "edit the image", in which case... don't. Choose the "edit" tab at the top of the page. Just like if it were a regular article. -- Sulfur 04:36, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, sounds like you're trying to edit the image rather than the page. Do what sulfur says. :) --From Andoria with Love 04:37, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

I've been clicking that button? TrekkyStar 04:45, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Apparently. That's what it seems like, anyway. Have you been clicking the link saying "Edit this file using an external application"? --From Andoria with Love 04:58, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Why not just click here? --Alan 05:00, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Or we could just do it. It was fairly obvious what episode it was from. I've cited it. You guys can figure out where to use it. --OuroborosCobra talk 05:28, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

No, I haven't been clicking "Edit this file using an external application" and when I click here it does it to. But now it's coming up as a file download? I tryed it on some other pages like the new movie page and it did it also. TrekkyStar 13:42, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

  • I fixed it!!! It was something in my preferences that I did, but I fixed it!! TrekkyStar 14:21, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Good, good. All is right in the world again. :) --From Andoria with Love 17:17, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Wind Dancer Edit

How did you learn that the Wind Dancer was not played by Dustin Diamond? What was your source? Thanks, MitchBolex 10:47, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

According to the Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion, the wind dancer was "the face of a made-up clown." --From Andoria with Love 17:31, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I just talked to Dustin. You're right, it isn't him. He's not sure why that ended up on IMDb. Sorry for the trouble!MitchBolex 02:13, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

CMT Award nomination for Shatner Edit

Hey Shran, I just got a promotional email from CMT. Shatner is nominated for a CMT Music Award for Supporting Character of the Year. Apparently for some kind of country music video he played in. I'm completely clueless about what CMT is, or if this is even particularly newsworthy. Mail me if you want me to forward the mail to you. -- Harry talk 16:28, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Thank you Edit

Hey Shran, thank you for this [3]. I'll post this to Vince. I have heard from a few fans that they'll spend time on the convention. ;) – Tom 07:39, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

No problem. :) Expect to see it in tomorrow's CelebWatch on TrekMovie.com, as well, assuming Anthony doesn't cut it out, lol! --From Andoria with Love 07:41, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
  • Well, he didn't cut it but he moved it into the TrekBits part at the bottom of the article. I guess Anthony wanted to keep things simple. :/ --From Andoria with Love 19:54, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Memory Alpha:Database download Edit

How do you do the Memory Alpha:Database download? --From TrekkyStar Live Long and Talk 21:13, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Right-click on the Download the Current Dump link and select "Save link as..." from the context menu. Save the resulting XML file wherever you want it. -- Renegade54 22:14, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks --From TrekkyStar Live Long and Talk 23:04, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Also its plain and not easy to read. --From TrekkyStar Live Long and Talk 03:50, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you expected, but it's a *dump* of the entire database in XML format. It's intended to be used to import into another wiki or a database, not to be viewed directly like you can with MA. -- Renegade54 05:40, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Joe (20th century) Edit

Hey, Shran, we never resolved this discussion from two months ago. The scene definitely isn't in the film (it aired on one of the MAX channels last month, so I finally got to see it again). How should I proceed? Real world POV and add text that says "In a deleted scene, etc." or what? Not clear on policy here. Thanks. - Bridge 00:42, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

If his scene was deleted, then the article should be formatted like Martin Madden, including rewording for POV (i.e. "In a deleted scene from Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home), the addition of the real world template, and the "deleted material" category. Also, it probably could be moved to something like Joe (Star Trek IV), but let's hold off on that for now. Feel free to proceed with the re-formatting/rewrite, though. :) --From Andoria with Love 00:51, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Will do. Thanks. - Bridge 00:55, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Re: Klingon-Federation War Edit

Hi Shran, I would just like to ask you why did you remove the infobox from the article? Is there any particular reason why? and if so, how can I convince you that an infobox should be in the article? Regards, Nat.tang 11:00, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Nat.tang. The reasons I removed the template A.) it removed the two images displaying the logos of the governments involved; B.) the template is so long that it pushed two other images into the bottom of the page, making the page look awful; and C.) it just looks better without the template. Smaller or shorter wars like that one don't needed the template, IMO, and I still think the template is a bit too long. For now, though, try to stick to articles that are already pretty lengthy, so all we'll need to do is move the images to the left without hurting the overall format and look of the article. --From Andoria with Love 11:12, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

RE: Personal Attacks Edit

Hi, Trlkly. I wanted to let you know that personal attacks such as the one you made at Mak Thorpe's talk page will not be tolerated. Please read No personal attacks for more. Thank you. --From Andoria with Love 04:47, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

So let's do this.
  1. Shouldn't this have been put at the anon's page who actually said these things? I'm not going to claim that it wasn't me, but it might not have been.
  2. I expect you made s similar on Alan's page? Or will you prove my point that Alan is treated with impunity?
  3. I was under the impression that User_Talk pages were used for communicating semi-privately between users, and thus did not belong to the Encyclopedia proper. I left that comment in particular to make Mak Thorpe feel better, and to give him advice in dealing with a particular editor who, as far as I know, has had his adminship put up for review at least twice, and thus is someone I try to avoid.
  4. If I'm thinking of someone else, I'm truly sorry. And I'm also sorry for not just reminding them both of whatever the MA equivalent is to WP:CIVIL or No personal attacks, instead of getting into this mess myself.

Commodore Sixty-Four(talk) 07:04, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Hey, Trlkly.

  1. We knew it was you. :)
  2. Had Alan actually called someone names or had done anything outside of being his normal sarcastic self, we would have talked to him about it. As it stands, he's not the one who made the personal attack.
  3. Talk pages are not private, especially when comments are made which violate are policies. While discussions are generally left between the two parties, if policy is violated it may become necessary for a third party (i.e. an administrator) to become involved.
  4. You've got the right guy, lol! Some of us have talked with Alan already regarding his general attitude, but he's Alan. He's one of those guys who "tells it like it is." It may not be entirely appropriate for an admin, but he didn't violate any policy there. Trust me, though, if he was really the "jerk" you claimed him to be he would never have been made admin. --From Andoria with Love 07:14, 11 March 2008 (UTC)
Woah, I was changing my response to you to be less sarcastic/mean (I only accidentally pressed the send button), I basically cut it down to "I'm really sorry. I revisited the page and discovered I was really the jerk. Will you guys forgive me? Did Alan read it? Should I appologize to him? Can/Should I remove the offending remark to try and control the damage?" Anyways, I would really like a chance to rewrite that response (even if I have to use strikeout, so I included my mistake on my talk page. (I think I'll censor the name so as not to be making another personal attack.)
Commodore Sixty-Four(talk) 07:37, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

You can remove the remark if you wish. I'm not sure if Alan read it or not. You can apologize to him personally if you wish, but you just did so here, so I don't think it's necessary. Knowing Alan, though, he probably wouldn't have thought anything of it, lol! Just, you know... try not to do it again. ;) --From Andoria with Love 07:46, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Admin Requests Edit

How come you can't request your-self like you can on wikipedia? --From TrekkyStar Live Long and Prosper 03:37, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, why can't you? --From TrekkyStar Live Long and Prosper 12:37, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Hey Shran. Any news about him? – Tom 11:23, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

No news at all, sadly. :( I've looked all over and I just can't find anything more about this guy... I don't even know if some of the production assistant Kits I found are this Kit. For now, Kit remains a mystery. :/ --From Andoria with Love 11:27, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Anthony Genovese Edit

Since you wrote his article, could you please look into this: Memory Alpha:Pages for deletion/Anthony Genovese? --Alan 03:17, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Request for comment. Edit

I'd request your comment here, as I am greatly concerned with how a massive change is being done seemingly without any input or approval by the community. We've gone through this before with smaller issues like mergers taking place specifically against what the community decided with no comment from administrators in the past. I'm considering reverting these changes if something isn't explained soon justifying them from a community perspective. This is 700+ articles, some of our most vital, that you are going and moving with seemingly no consensus, input, discussion, or notification to the community, and so far not answering concerns from it and instead just plugging along. This isn't how a wiki is supposed to work, not how administrators are supposed to behave, etc. I'm left to guess that this is another "in IRC only" discussion, which has been pointed out in the past just doesn't cut it for major things like this, and results in alienating those not active in IRC. Please, will one of you respond to ease these concerns? --OuroborosCobra talk 22:14, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

2008 spoiler Edit

Just FYI, I've change the 2008spoiler template back - section warnings can be handled with {{Spoiler-section}}. -- Michael Warren | Talk 09:50, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Sorry about my first round of tense changes Edit

I had looked for, but not yet found, the information on the POV page. There was inconsistency in tense use and unfortunately I chose the wrong tense to standardize to! I've now gone back and fixed the pre-existing present tenses to past. It should be all good now. Emilyforce 23:21, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

No worries, we all make mistakes, especially when we're just starting out. Thanks for correcting the rest of the tenses, and good job. :) --From Andoria with Love 00:14, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Episode Summarys Edit

What should I add into episode summarys because I'm going to enhance some episode pages. --From TrekkyStar Peace and Long Life 23:43, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Episode summaries should just be a run-through of the episode's story from start to finish. It should not be extensively detailed, just enough to cover the main points. The first section of a summary is always the "teaser" (the part of the episode which comes before the main title sequence). The rest of the summary should be separated by acts, with each act ending when the episode "fades to black" as though going to commercial. See "These Are the Voyages..." for an example of a good summary. --From Andoria with Love 00:21, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, there some TNG episodes that I'm going to watch and summarize! --From TrekkyStar Peace and Long Life 22:11, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

extra space Edit

hi. um the extra space in the reuploaded images was to keep the images in the t'pol article consistent in size and proportion. it also prevents them from intruding on different sections. the t'pol crying - in its cropped form - extends from the 'jonathan archer' paragraph into the 'family' paragraph and makes the formatting (at least on my broswer) wonky. also the butt shot is really tacky and cropped to focus on the nudity. in its original format, it's less brazen and doesn't take up as much space on the page to which i hope to add other pictures of her wardrobe. Deevolution 00:17, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Ah, I see. Well, when you upload images, you need to consider other pages which use the images. For example, on the Vulcan page, the image should focus on T'Pol's back, not on the wall or window behind them. --From Andoria with Love 03:38, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Indeed. Found a newsbit about Quint and Data here [5]. It's from the 7th, so a couple of weeks old, but I dont see as having been in our news anywhere. --Alan 15:23, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Awww! Nice! And who better to teach the ways of life, the universe, and everything other than myself? :-D Unfortunately (well, not for me), "This Week in Trek" is no more – it has been spread out into several columns which include CelebWatch, TrekInk, Science Friday, Sci-Fi Saturday, and FanMade. Everyone's column is pretty kick-ass, plus it's less work for me. ;) RE: Alan - I actually reported on that here; As for putting it in our news, I just never thought to do it – but it would probably go in the Trek movie news section since it involves an actor from that movie. btw, I don't need to be the only one who adds things to the news panels. ;) --From Andoria with Love 20:03, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Ah, but you're the best at it. Actually, the more important part of that was Data being inducted into the "Robot Hall of Fame" at a reputable institute. --Alan 20:19, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Good point about Data's induction. I've added it to the news section. :) --From Andoria with Love 20:26, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

It works.... Edit

As I can see it works. You're also using NowCasting. Really good. ;) – Tom 14:48, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I just realized yesterday, "Holy crap, I can just type in different names in the URL and it'll take me to their resume." That's me, always the slow learner, lol! It kinda ticks me off, though, when I enter a name and all that's there is an image and no resume, or worse, when there's nothing and it redirects me to the main page. Oy! :) --From Andoria with Love 14:58, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Just try this link [6]. There you can type in a few letters or a partial name and it will search for you all possibilities. It is a great help and It helped me many times to identify and contact actors in the last year. ;) Btw, don't forget Wilson Dyer. :) – Tom 15:03, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

I knew about the search option, but when I searched for Diora Baird, it wouldn't let me click on her resume (see? :D) I had to look up someone else's resume and replace their name with her's. Also, I didn't forget about Wilson Dyer, I've already finished his article. Thanks anyway, though. ;) --From Andoria with Love 15:12, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
  • By the way, it would be great if NowCasting gave us the option of searching by credits. Alas, that would just be too easy for us, wouldn't it? ;) --From Andoria with Love 02:50, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Definitly too easy. :) But there are many credits on several NowCasting resume pages which are spelled wrong, for example Star Treck or something similar. – Tom 12:16, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Yah, I've noticed that. Those typos are pretty amusing. You would think people would get those accurate on their professional resume. ;) --From Andoria with Love 20:22, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Suggestion Edit

I'd like to suggest a checkuser to see if TREK & C.S.I.3 is in fact Commander data, trying to circumvent his 3 month block. The behavior is similar, especially the ignoring of the talk page. --OuroborosCobra talk 02:39, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

IMDB Pro, RE: Forum:Sisko's Land Edit

Hi, IMDB has a "Pro" service, I wonder if you're a subscriber? If you are, I wonder if you could tell me whether complete production credits are listed there for Pro subscribers. I was just trying to find a way (without the DVD) to look up an episode's complete credits, not just the credits for individuals, which is what I see at IMDB, Trekcore, etc. It seems like they leave out some of what's seen at the end of an episode, if those credits include anything other than a person. Thanks for anything you have to say about it! TribbleFurSuit 17:28, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

I am not a subscriber to IMDbPro, sorry. That actually requires money. ;-) Anyway, I currently don't know of a way outside of the DVD to get individual episode credits... sorry. :-( --From Andoria with Love 18:12, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

I guess I'll go ahead and sign up for the free trial and see whether the info I want is available there. I thought you might have the Pro subscription, since you get so much industry info. Thanks! --TribbleFurSuit 08:07, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Well, regular IMDb and several entertainment industry news sites (Variety, Hollywood Reporter, etc.) have generally been enough for what I need, along with various resume and casting sites. For what it's worth I don't think Pro will have more in terms of credit listings. I used up my free trial several years ago, and I while they had more listings for upcoming movies and contacts for various industry folks, I don't think they had more credits for most movies than did IMDb. Do me a favor, though, and copy and paste whatever info they have for Star Trek (2009) and e-mail it to me, lol! --From Andoria with Love 13:29, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Glad to. Stand by --TFS

Roger that, and thanks! You should be able to use the "e-mail this user" link to the left. If that doesn't work for some reason please let me know. Thanks again! :) --From Andoria with Love 21:06, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
  • Hey, got the e-mail. As I suspected, the credits are the same on IMDb Pro as they are on IMDb. Thanks for sending me the info, though. If you see anything on the site you think might be new or interesting, don't hesitate to send it to me. Heck, don't be hesitant to add it to the site if you can confirm the info with another source, lol! Thanks again, mate, and enjoy the Pro service while you can. :) --From Andoria with Love 21:17, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

My apologies Edit

Shran, thank you for intervening. I'm sorry that I lost my temper and that the situation with "When It Rains..." escalated into an edit war. I normally have no interest in that sort of thing, but this time I reached the limits of my patience. I'm sorry you had to spend any time dealing with it. - Bridge 18:56, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

No worries, it wasn't really an edit war as i thought, at least not on your part. There was only one revert each. I'm gonna go ahead an unprotect the page and just block TREK/CSI for two days. Apparently one day wasn't enough. :/ --From Andoria with Love 18:59, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Additional tag for FA's Edit

A couple of us have been looking into tweaking the way Featured Articles are tagged. Yesterday, I proposed that we should have a little unobtrusive tag at the top of the FA's in order to ensure users know that they are, indeed Featured Articles without having to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to find out. You seem to be a very fair person and an influential admin. I know it's a holiday weekend in the US, but is there any way you can help get some more traffic to this discussion so that we can make it so? ;-) – Topher 17:25, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Spoilers Edit

Do you think it's possible to alter the template (if there is one) on the Recent Changes page to include whether or not a page has spoilers on it? I assume it's a template and therefore possible but, well, I certainly don't know much about MediaWiki! – Morder 19:11, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

If I understand what you're asking (alerting people on the recent changes that certain pages being edited contain spoilers), it might be possible but I don't know enough about MediaWiki (or whatever I need to know about) to change it. I especially don't know how to change the text in the recent changes listing itself. This is probably something you'll have to bring up in at Ten Forward. --From Andoria with Love 19:21, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Sorry to "hijack" your page, Shran... ;)
AFAIK, the RC listing is generated by the software directly, no template or Mediawiki: namespace message involved. In this case, the only way to make this happen would be to patch the software directly - which most probably isn't going to happen. -- Cid Highwind 19:45, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Hijacking my talk page is fine, so long as you return it in fair condition. ;)
I agree, a change like that probably won't happen. It never hurts to ask, though. :) --From Andoria with Love 19:49, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Shran, Cid I just thought I'd ask as I have it set to not show the page on diffs only the actual diffs and every once in a while I check a movie related one. I'll just have to ignore them from now on! – Morder 20:07, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Take a look at his contributions. He has continued with the improper addition of episode arcs, and even of things that no one could possibly consider an arc. You mentioned yesterday that he has been warned before. The only other time he stopped doing it was after receiving a block, which is also basically the only time he has ever answered anything on his talk page, IIRC. From an e-mail which Anthony Pascale of TrekMovie.com received from John Van Citters:
Anthony,
Can you modify your story and alert others as well. Tickets will NOT be on sale on Monday. Apparently ticketmaster won't be ready, so the on-sale date is now the day of show.
Thanks - this should be confirmation that you indeed get the jump on everyone, erroneous information and all!

Film creditsEdit

Those are the 'official' film credits designed as a template for the film page, i dont see the point of removing them except to make it that much more extraneous to get the full credits list in a single source...which is what i thought the point of the "film credits" page(s), also so that everyone is linked to the film they are associated with. --Alan 01:16, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

I was just thinking we could cut down on the length of the pages by having specific company production staff members listed on their company's pages. It also didn't make much sense to me to have the full ILM crew of each movie listed on two pages. But maybe that's just me. :/ --From Andoria with Love 01:21, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Why not list them alphabetically, that way you remove the redundancy variable of those who participated in multiple films. Then again we already have a list, either way you look at it, at Category:ILM production staff too ;) --Alan 01:55, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Hmm... good point, lol! Alphabetical could work, though. Would take a while, but that would certainly remove a bit of redundancy. :) --From Andoria with Love 03:36, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Trill Spots Edit

Shran, please remove my email address from memory alpha. You've replaced it.

Since posting it here I'm getting more and more junk mail. I don't want it anywhere on memory alpha.

Thanks.

Star Trek: The Music Edit

Please see User talk:AllanVS and User talk:Cleanse ... I had asked in Cleanse's Talkpage and was answered in MY talk page by 31dot and Sulfur that I could bring the article over, as long as it was my own work on WP. Star Trek Regular Edit

"...with Star Trek: Voyager regular Robert Picardo..."
"...which featured Armin Shimerman (Quark, etc.)..."
"...character Jack Bauer. Alexander Siddig was also a member..."
"...co-starred with Colm Meaney (Miles O'Brien on TNG and DS9). He has worked..."

I think, if anything, if we're going to have "Star Trek: something Regular" we should put them everywhere. The above were all taken from the same article, let alone from other articles where stuff like that doesn't exist...which is why I removed that text. So...yeah...let's standardize! :) – Morder 16:25, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Meaney was already covered with the "Miles O'Brien on TNG and DS9" bit; I've specified the others as DS9 regulars. :) --From Andoria with Love 22:51, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Some...stuff Edit

Hey, there, some stuff I wanted to cover here, mainly through reading your user page, and a couple other things you have done around on MA got me wondering (and, when I start wondering about stuff...it gets to me...it's like a never ending, relentless, nagging...thing). Firstly, I am curious, how are you able to link to diff actor pages from now casting (Or is it casting now? I forget).

Mostly out of curiosity, as I see some people do it, is there a permission/request stage to go through for subpages for user pages? I notice you have them for discussion archives, and your thoughts on the Star Trek Universe (an interesting read, btw). I'm also curious as to what sort of things you had in mind for ENT's 5th season, any sort of an overall arc? or just the "Problem of the week" type?

I feel like there's more, and I am forgetting, URG, hate it when that happens. Well, I guess this can start it off until I can remember what, if anything else I had wanted to mention, lol.

Oh, yeah...what are your thoughts on the idea of Starfleet (Earth) and Starfleet merging? There doesn't seem to be much going on with that atm.--Terran Officer 09:44, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Hey, Terran Officer. I'll try to answer all your questions to the best of my ability. :)
  1. I am not entirely sure what you're asking regarding the Now Casting links (and it is Now Casting). Are you asking how I find different actors on the site? I typically use this link to search the site for actors' resumes. In the event they don't have a link to the resume, I just copy and paste the URL of another actor's resume, replace the name, and try it out. Sometimes there's a resume, but most times it's just a picture.
  2. Permission is not necessary; simply create the page. :) However, try to keep the pages limited (just one subpage is preferable).
  3. Glad you enjoyed my Trek thoughts. :) For a fifth season of Enterprise, I would have continued to the the arc format of ENT Season 4 (while also keeping the TOS prequel angle which became prevalent in that season as well). However, I would have returned the focus of the show to exploration, as in ENT Season 1 and ENT Season 2. Shran would have become a member of the crew as first officer, with T'Pol reluctantly (though stoically) conceding the post to him (though she continues serving as science officer). This would increase the already-existing conflict between the two. Also, I would give the post-augment virus Klingons one or two good episodes before making them cut off all contact with Starfleet due to the chaos the virus has caused on Qo'noS (I think the Klingons are a bit overused; a fifth season episode would mark Humans' final contact with the Klingons before 2223). I would also give the Temporal Cold War a proper wrap-up and reveal who Future Guy is (I have a few ideas). The season would probably conclude with an attack at Station Salem-One, leading to the Earth-Romulan War. As with season four, many of the episodes would be full of TOS references, some based entirely on ideas introduced on TOS. Those are just some of the things I think would make an ideal fifth season. :) --From Andoria with Love 10:13, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
  4. I am somewhat indifferent regarding the Starfleet/Starfleet (Earth) merge, though I am leaning towards supporting the merge since there's no real proof the institutions were any different (that I can recall, anyway). It seems it's going to be merged anyway. :)
I hope all of the above made sense to you. I'm groggy so some of it may be strange or confusing. If you don't understand any of it or if you have any more questions, don't be afraid to let me know. :) --From Andoria with Love 10:13, 10 July 2008 (UTC)

Regarding your Persis EditEdit

I read your comment on your edit, I wasn't sure if I should have listed Malik as such, and had read the definitions of Consort to be sure before I submited my edits. Using the definitions available, that seemed to fit the...obvious nature of the relationship, and the fact Worf did not marry...well, I forget her name now, Alexander's mother, but she's still listed under the spouse line, so I simply followed that example.

I hope I don't sound rude here, I just woke up a few minutes ago. --Terran Officer 10:28, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Well, according to the definition at dictionary.com, a consort is "either member of a married pair in relation to the other; one's husband or wife." I don't think Malik, Raakin, and K'Ehleyr qualify as spouses in that regard, since they were never actually married to Persis or Worf, respectively. I could be wrong, though. :/ --From Andoria with Love 10:34, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Perhaps there should be some sort of other relationship line then? To allow such mention of these things? Clearly, while not a 'relative' relationship to degree, as we seem to come to the conclusion on, the mention of these people and their connection to the individual would still be important, particularly in the case of Persis and Worf, due to the fact that the relationships were a major (or maybe not so major per se) plot point in the episodes. That, or the term 'spouse' could be applied loosely here, not just used for two (or more in some cases) persons that are 'married'.--Terran Officer 10:40, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Well, as long as we label them as "{consort}", it should be a problem, but I think another relationship line would be the best solution. I have no idea what it would be, though. "Mate," perhaps? :-P Or "Consort?" "Lover?" Eh, maybe we should just leave it like it is, lol! --From Andoria with Love 10:47, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

I'm not certain, you might be right in leaving it as it is, with some sort of byline being used to specify the nature of the relationship, such as (wife), (consort), (mate) etc... The problem that could arise is, where is the line drawn, as for instance, one might thing that T'Pol and Charles Tucker III would fit the bill of being mentioned on each other's sidebar, again through the plot point (It was a big deal, no?), although spouse would definitly not be the proper term here. --Terran Officer 10:56, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Whale/Dolphin Edit

Regarding your reversion here, are you aware that in the real world Killer Whales are in fact Dolphins? I ask this because unless this is specifically contradicted in canon, it belongs on the list of dolphins, not whales. --OuroborosCobra talk 11:17, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Of course I knew that, I was just testing you! :-P Actually, I do know the orca is part of the dolphin family, but at 4 in the morning, all I was that it was a whale that had been listed under dolphins. That said, the orca was included in a discussion on whales in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. So, while never specifically referred to as being part of the whale family, it seemed to be considered a whale in the movie. :/ --From Andoria with Love 14:52, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

Was it included in a discussion on whales, or was the model just hanging in the Cetacean Institute? Remember that Cetacean is not limited to whales, but includes dolphins and porpoises as well. --OuroborosCobra talk 02:44, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

I thought there was a brief discussion on killer whales... could be wrong. It's been several months since I last saw the movie. :/ --From Andoria with Love 05:19, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Move Consensus?Edit

Hi, I am curious...what amount would there need to be, or the...average amount, of votes before a move consensus is considered to have happened? Well, if that is the way to say it, heh. I ask because I went to read the Earth Starfleet page out of boredom, and saw that the merge template was still up. I read the merge page, and it said for seven to ten days (it's been nearly that since I've voted, let alone discussion started) if there's been a consensus blah blah blah (am certain you know the 'rules' here :P).

I didn't sign above...oops. Moving on, I hope I wasn't to annoying, or pushy on the subject. I also hope that I didn't just cause you a bunch of grief and extra work, is there anything I could do to help out with moving some of this stuff around?--Terran Officer 06:57, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

No worries, mate, it needed to be done. I think I have everything in order, just a few more page moves and maybe some merges to do but that should be it. You weren't being annoying or pushy, and there's no grief at all. :) Thanks for bringing this back to my attention, by the way, I wasn't aware the discussion had ended. --From Andoria with Love 07:00, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Me...again!Edit

This is becoming a frequent occurrence it, seems! :P. Back to track of what I wanted to ask, I know there is documentation to read to help write an article, but I was wondering, as someone who has made many, many contributions to Memory Alpha, what sort of steps do you take to write an article? I made a subpage (see it here), where I am attempting to expand the mirror universes T'Pol. As you can see, I have kind of gone overboard there, and was simply reading IAMD, I page, and the original page for the MU T'Pol. I started this with the intention to simply rewrite (slightly) the article, and to place in the additional information I felt was missing (and allowing the information to flow together) from the page. I feel that I perhaps was off to a good start, with the introduction, and the part of Tucker...enjoying his assistance, but from there, I kind of went..kaput. Again, I feel there is info from both parts that could be included here, but I am uncertain of how I should now proceed. If you have a moment, could you just give it a once over? Or perhaps mention what you do when writing an article? I figure some of this information would need to be considered (And in some cases, slightly rearranged in order or style of writing to allow for the actions shes about to take). The problem I tend to have, is to write to much detail (In school, writing notes was hell, I'd basically rewrite what I was reading), and in this case? I am not even out of act I. >< Sorry this is a bit long winded. --Terran Officer 09:48, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

Hey, Terran Officer. I don't really have a special way of writing articles, I just take the information I want to write and type it up as clear and concisely as is possible for me. Looking at your page, the problem isn't really that you went overboard; rather, the grammar and wording needs a lot of work. Go ahead and finish it, though, and I'll look over what you have and fix some things. :) --From Andoria with Love 10:01, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

First Contact Article Cast/Crew Credits Edit

Thanks for moving that to a linked page. I'm sorry if I added that in the wrong place, the current revision looked like it had left out some of the main cast members and was using the non-working tabview extension (ticket filed on that one). So I replaced it with one from an older revision. -- JSharp (talk) @Wikia 22:29, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

No worries. I'm not sure what's going on with the tabview... it works for me but not for others. Very odd... :/ --From Andoria with Love 22:31, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Famous "Trek" actors Edit

Maybe not as an article on it's own, but I thought it would be interesting to note some actors who appeared on Star Trek before achieving some degree of fame.

I started thinking about this after reading Jeffrey Dean Morgan's IMDB profile and noticing that he'd played a Xindi-Reptilian in an episode of Enterprise.

There are a few others I already thought of, such as Kirstie Alley, Kirsten Dunst, Teri Hatcher, Ashley Judd, Gabrielle Union, Thomas Dekker, Stephen Root, Gordon Clapp, Scott Grimes, and Autumn Reeser. There's probably a few I overlooked.

Please note: I was thinking of actors who became famous after appearing on Star Trek so people like Whoopi Goldberg, Kelsey Grammer, Jason Alexander, Virginia Madsen, Christian Slater, The Rock, Ed Begley, Jr., Sharon Lawrence, and Louise Fletcher and some others would not. --T smitts 17:50, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

I would think that Teri Hatcher was a bit famous before she was on Star Trek. what with being on for a few episodes MacGyver, A The Love Boat regular and a couple others...and being Richard's squeeze. I would say the same about Stephen Root. :) I think your idea has merit though! But we'd need to set limitations as to exactly who as I feel that Root/Hatcher were both famous but Dunst for instance wasn't...just depends on someone's definition of fame... :) – Morder 21:08, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
I don't think I'd say Stephen Root was famous. His first really well-known role, I think, was on Newsradio which was a few more years away. Teri's a bit subjective. I do think it was Lois & Clark that made her a name actress. Two others that I thought of after posting were Nikki Cox and Mädchen Amick. (Notice how the list is predominantly female?). I think James Cromwell is a tricky one. He wasn't nearly as well-known when he made his first TNG appearance, but most Trek fans remember him as Zefram Cochrane, when he was well known.
--T smitts 22:01, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
Enrique Murciano later became a regular on Without a Trace; Trek had Stephen Collins and Catherine Hicks before 7th Heaven did; Scott Lawrence appeared on Voyager before starring on JAG did (not sure if he counts as famous, though); William Marshall did Trek before he did Blacula; Tige Andrews did Trek before The Mod Squad; Susan Howard went on to star on Dallas; Daniel Davis is best known for his role on The Nanny but that was after he did TNG; Kurtwood Smith started doing Trek a few years before That 70s Show; and that's all I got for now. :) --From Andoria with Love 08:11, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Boston Trek update Edit

Hey Shran. I was just wondering. Taylor McCluskey had a supporting role in a Boston Legal episode, directed by Steve Robin. Not sure which one, but Robin only directed five episodes and McCluskey played a thug. – Tom 09:06, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Still kicking. :) Hugh sounds good to me. I'm also thinking about bringing up another actor for featured article, but I'm not sure who (Ricardo Montalban, perhaps?). NEC Edit

In regards to this edit, while I agree with your removal as the note was written so badly (where the hell did 24th century even come from?), can the presence of the NEC monitor being identifiable on screen be confirmed? If it could, that actually might be worthy of an article. We've done articles based on similar evidence. --OuroborosCobra talk 08:55, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Article of the Week Edit

Thanks for fixing up Tom Morga's blurb on the main page. I hadn't considered that it wasn't long enough to accompany the picture.

If you're interested, it would be great if you could join in discussion and nomination of articles for Memory Alpha:Article of the Week. For the last year or so we've just been reusing past articles, and it's becoming a bit stale. You nominated USS Excelsior as FA, so perhaps you might want to nominate it for AotW? Cheers, Cleanse 10:46, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Cleanse. I will take part in the AotW discussion soon and will nominated Excelsior and maybe a few others. A bit busy going through the recent changes and working on some articles at the moment, but I'll chime in in the very near future. :) --From Andoria with Love 16:39, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Morder/Links Edit

I've added a new set of pages to MA that shows Movies/TV shows that actors of star trek have appeared in together located here. There is a bit of a problem though as TV shows don't know whether or not they appeared in the same episode just in the show itself. Quoted entries are TV shows as far as I know. Hopefully you can use this information. :) – Morder 14:15, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Impressed as always Edit

That was an excellent talk page entry about the Picard quote. As always your abilities as an administrator impress me greatly. I hope I won't need your services with this [7] but I'm afraid I might. I just do not feel that an admin should be acting this way. If I am out of line let me know. You have always been honest. Perhaps the best thing to do would be to ignore it. Thanks. -FC 21:43, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi, FC. Thanks for the compliments. Hopefully my comments on the Picard page will permit people to move on. If not, I'll just protect the page. :) Regarding your issue with Alan, I have always been uncomfortable getting involved in discussions between an administrator and a non-admin. You're certainly not the first person to have problems with him. You are not "out of line" as that would imply we have greater authority over you, which we don't – we just have a few more abilities and responsibilities (like ending pointless talk page discussions that get out of hand, lol). The thing you need to know about Alan is that he has a unique way of looking at things and often deals with things with sarcasm. I don't really think his comments are meant to be personal (or, at the very least, mean-spirited). Alan's a great guy and a great admin, but he will not hesitate to let people know he doesn't like something they did or to point out what he sees as faults in other users. When he does, though, he typically does it in his own unique, sarcastic way. Whether you want to ignore it or not or bring his behavior up for review is up to you, I just wanted to give you a quick rundown of Alan's "philosophy" so maybe you can understand him better (if that makes sense). You're right, his behavior isn't typical for most administrators, but I don't think he's resorted to personal attacks yet. :) I hope this helps! --From Andoria with Love 22:05, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the frank answer. I have actually read very closely the comments about taking minor points, like the Buck Rogers and Sauce issues, and expand them into endless and tiresome discussions. I am sorry that I took those articles out of context and hopefully will contribute better in the future. I'll just let this issue go then; thanks again. -FC 22:08, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

TREK & C.S.I.3 Edit

I figure since you are the most recent admin to deal with him, I'll report him to you. Upon returning to Memory Alpha after his one month ban, his very first edit violated the instructions you gave him about episode titles. Upon telling him to stop, his response was to violate your warning about not emailing us. --OuroborosCobra talk 14:35, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, Cobra. I've blocked him. I was actually willing to let that one edit slide for Surak knows why. It was the e-mail that did him in. Probably should have added two additional months for that instead of one. ;) --From Andoria with Love 14:53, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Concubine Edit

Regarding the changes to "concubine": As the page is now, it is difficult to understand the difference between mistress and concubine. According to wikipedia a concubine has limited legal rights, and the union is "quasimatrimonial", and the man is usually married. One must assume the text writers of Star trek took this into consideration when they used the word, so why not let the page reflect this? At least there should be a link to wikipedia for people who want to know the full meaning og the word, not just the unprecise information presently shown on this page;-) The preceding unsigned comment was added by 80.203.78.244 (talk).

If Shran doesn't mind me jumping in here :-)...
On MA we try to limit how much real-world info we place into articles to the bare minimum. Otherwise we'd be flooded with irrelevant information. I've added Wikipedia links on the two pages which should help make the real-world distinction clear.– Cleanse 02:09, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

the dodge bar Edit

hey shran, it's been a long while since i've really substantially contributed to the site, but i was browsing the page for the upcoming movie today and noticed that you've begun listing some of the uncredited background actors. i was in the dodge bar sequence and i think it would be sort of cool to be listed. i'm not on the IMDB, i've only ever done extra work. what's the procedure on this? Deevolution 20:45, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Hey, Deevolution. Been a while, indeed. It's great that you got to be in the movie, that must have been an awesome experience. As for being listed, all you really need to do is add your name to the list, then you can create your article. It will have to be your real name, though. Also, it will help if we have a source to link it to; for example, if you have a MySpace page, just say somewhere there that you were in the movie. That way, there's an existed external site to source the information. For the record, though, I will be confirming your involvement with my own sources. That's not because I don't believe you, but I would like to have more than one source, if that makes sense. So, yah, go ahead and add your name and create your article if you want and link it to maybe a MySpace page or something, and I'll handle the rest. :) --From Andoria with Love 22:41, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
since i don't have a myspace page, what i will do is scan my pay voucher from the shoot and well show it to someone. thanks so much. Deevolution 03:11, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Even better, lol! When the movie comes out, remind me to ask you a whole bunch of questions on it. ;) Hope you had fun, though. :)--From Andoria with Love 03:44, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
ok, it took a while but i finally remembered to track down my pay vouchers from 'corporate headquarters'. i also have the costume department contract they made us all sign, which i was really tickled by, "Your costume will NOT be discussed or described to anyone outside of this film set." so should i send these to an email address or how should i proceed? Deevolution 08:34, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
What I would do is, after scanning the voucher, simply upload it to an image hosting site such as Image Shack. Then provide the link to your image on the talk page of your article. That's what I would do, anyways. :) Remember to use an image-editing program to remove any personal information from the image. I'm not sure what's on the voucher, but if there's any social security number or other info you don't want shared to the public, remember to hide it. :) --From Andoria with Love 15:35, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

I would like to add this picture to the Melbourne article. Can I be allowed to do this? Ambassador/Ensign_Q 00:55, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Hiya, Ensign Q. I don't think it would really be appropriate to do that. I would say bring it up on the talk page and see if others are okay with adding it while it's protected... although, IIRC, the article won't be protected much longer. However, since limiting the number of images on the page was intentional, I would still recommend bringing up the image's inclusion on Melbourne's talk page. --From Andoria with Love 02:10, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Ah, ok. Ambassador/Ensign_Q 14:30, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Re:Psst Edit

Yes. ;) Btw, not sure if you want to include her. She was a background actress in two episodes of Boston Legal. The first one shot on August 22, as a Restaurant patron in a scene with James Spader and his date, the second one as a juror. The latter episode was aired on 6th Novemeber 2007. – Tom 13:44, 17 September 2008 (UTC)

Kathryn Hays interview Edit

Hello there, it's been a while :) I hope everything is good?

I just got an email from a certain Nick Thomas, working for the Bureau County Republican (some local US newspaper, as far as I gather). He's done an interesting little interview with Kathryn Hays (Gem in "The Empath"): Click on "pdf" below Gem's thumbnail. He adds that you're free to link or copy the PDF in her article. -- Harry usr tlk 21:39, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Hiya, Harry, long time no see! Yeah, everything's as good as can be expected. You? And thanks for this, I'll check out the interview soon. --From Andoria with Love 23:50, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Thank You Edit

I appreciated your comments regarding the nitpick deletion policy. Despite having read about it elsewhere, they were still helpful in clarifying the situation. Thanks. --Tom

No problem, glad I could help in some fashion. :) --From Andoria with Love 00:07, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

School... Edit

Background Information Edit

Exactly what is deemed acceptable background information for an episode? – Watching... listening... 01:22, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

You'll probably have a much easier time asking what isn't, or better yet giving a specific example. --OuroborosCobra talk 01:36, 28 September 2008 (UTC)
Background information should relate to the development of the episode. Think of it as a place for "behind-the-scenes" information. It can include notes on the show's production, the cast, the writing process, deleted scenes, and any other info pertaining to the creation of the episode. --From Andoria with Love 04:15, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Oh, I see. Thank you. – Watching... listening... 04:29, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

An Aside Edit

You said that you were sure that somebody must have incapacitated a Borg drone by pulling its cables oout of its head before Archer and Reed did it in "Regeneration". I am not arguing whether or not this is a valid background point; from what you have told me, it is not. But I've seen every episode a drone appeared in, in every series, and I ain't never seen nobody do that. :) – Watching... listening... 01:09, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

P.S. Of course, I watched these episodes on network TV, which, as I have discovered, cuts scenes to fit in commercials, so I may be wrong. :) – Watching... listening... 01:11, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

News Edit

what? you don't like my news? just go and override it then. — Morder 05:24, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

  • I have no idea what you're talking about. Perhaps you can explain it to me when I wake up. G'night! :) --From Andoria with Love 05:34, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

I can't explain it because I was tired and full of crap when I mentioned it. — Morder 21:19, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Wiki markup Edit

Hello there. You seem to be experienced in wiki markup (being an admin and all!) so I was wondering if you would mind doing me a favour? I am starting up a wiki for a Star Trek SIMM I am part of but I am not experienced enough in wiki markup to create advanced templates, such as sidebars. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind helping me out with doing a template similar to Template:Sidebar individual and Template:Sidebar episode? My wiki is at [here] and the template pages are [here] and [here]. The intention is to have character pages with a sidebar showing their important information, much like characters here at MA, and mission pages to have sidebars with information such as stardate, year, previous, next etc, again, much like MA. I would really appreciate any help you could give in this matter. Thank you, TrekFan Talk 15:56, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Star Trek Comic News Edit

Hey, I had to post this year, as it seems it's not editable, news relating to the new movie. Just to help out here, I saw the release for the comics is listed to start in January 2008, it's actually 2009. Again, I'd have done this myself and not bugged you (as it looks like you already had to correct yourself several times), but I can't seem to. --Terran Officer 03:27, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Sorry...Edit

Cleaned up your history a bit to move an item to Talk:Aouri Makhlouf. Sorry about the mess. -- Sulfur 00:26, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Ha! No worries, man. :) --From Andoria with Love 04:54, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

RE: New ShipsEdit

I read the message so I am not very much angry that the 1701 was changed since I saw on an episode on TNG called Violations I am willing to assume that the disign falls into play quite accurally. Like with the NX-01 it looked kind of spiffy and this movie is (I guess) the bridge between ENT and TOS so I am not hate ful of the movie. I am acctually looking forward to it.  :) Also what do you know of CBS Paramount's hold on the Star Trek franchise? My Dad told me that I can not post a fanon story online until I contact CBS Paramount and they say that it is ok to post it and use any ships, characters, etc for anything else. Rift Fleet 12:27, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi! I'm glad you're looking forward to the film, I am, as well. It is important for die-hard Trekkies to keep an open mind, though, because our interpretation of canon may not fit the writers' interpretation, plus we have to realize they are essentially creating their own canon. As for the fanon, you can write whatever you want, wherever you want, just so long as you're not making money off of it and you don't claim pre-existing characters and ships to be your own invention. It's only when people start to make money off of their property that CBS Paramount get angry. Hope that helps! :) --From Andoria with Love 18:38, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

Taylor McCluskey Edit

wow Shran - how did you screw this up? :) — Morder 00:44, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

I was obviously shrooming. Don't judge me! :-P --From Andoria with Love 04:17, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

My bad Edit

I didn't realize that even widely publicized casting had to be hidden on talk pages. The policy says that "official cast and production information released by Paramount, CBS, or credible news sources.... can only be added to pages told from a production point of view", but I didn't realize that that applied to talk pages as well. My bad. —Josiah Rowe 07:20, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Well, there's no official policy on including it on talk pages, I just know there are people on MA who prefer not to know that information. Actually, it was one person in particular I was looking out for, though he probably already saw the names. But the policy doesn't necessarily apply to talk pages; I just did that as a courtesy to those who don't wish to know that info. :) --From Andoria with Love 13:04, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Wow — I didn't realize that there were people who were trying to avoid even the most basic (and widely publicized) casting info. But to each his own, as the old lady said when she kissed the cow... —Josiah Rowe 15:35, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

Indeed. :) --From Andoria with Love 16:14, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
That would be me...don't you dare ruin the movie for me...unfortunately I did know that he was Spock but that's all I know - I don't know what he looks like or anything (thank god I've never heard of him) - I avoid everything I can so that when I watch the movie I will be pleasantly surprised and enjoy it. Thanks Shran :) — Morder 19:42, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
I thought he was thinking of me :( --OuroborosCobra talk 20:07, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
Morder: No problem. :)
Cobra: I knew you didn't like spoilers, but I didn't know you were against seeing cast names and characters like Morder, or at least I didn't remember that that was the case (sorry, mate). If that's the case, then I guess I have two people in particular to watch out for. :) --From Andoria with Love 02:48, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
Well, for me it is more that I don't want to see character names. Once I sadly know someone is going to be in the movie, the cast name means less to me. --OuroborosCobra talk 03:38, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

In that case, I apologize to both of you (even if I don't really understand the desire to avoid knowing that Spock is in the movie, or seeing the pictures that are kind of everywhere). I understand wanting to avoid plot details, or even to a lesser extent casting beyond the obvious, but some things are pretty basic. That said, you've got the right to try to avoid whatever you like, and I do apologize if I revealed anything you didn't already know. I promise that I won't mention Nathan Lane's cameo as Harry Mudd! ;) —Josiah Rowe 03:52, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

ST XI Trailer... Revelation?! Edit

At the local theater, I saw the ST XI trailer... you know, the one that starts with Kirk as a child almost going over a cliff (I'm assuming you have seen it)? And we see this uniformed fellow whom I can only describe as a biker cop asking young James his name? He even had an antigrav "motorcycle"-type vehicle which, if I remember correctly, had what looked to me like red and blue flashers! Was I wrong? I mean, since when did 23rd century Earth in ST's universe need cops? What do you think? :) – Watching... listening... 16:23, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

The cop that appeared in the trailer appears to have been robotic in nature, so I'm assuming it's some form of autonomous law enforcement. Since we have seen various forms of Earth-based law enforcement seen in some form or fashion throughout the 22nd, 23rd and 24th centuries – including Starfleet Security, Federation Security, Department of Temporal Investigations, and even Section 31 – I don't find it unusual that they would still have some kind of police force on Earth, especially one comprised of machines. There is really nothing to contradict the presence of cops on Earth in that time, anyway; although war on Earth may have abolished by that time, that doesn't necessarily mean every single criminal activity has ceased. People still fight, after all, in addition to stealing old cars and driving them off of cliffs. :) --From Andoria with Love 20:13, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Another thing. Watching the trailer, I thought that ST XI looks different, somehow... not mediocre, not a glorified TV episode, but an actual cinematic big-screen movie. And a good one, too. I wondered... what was it about this one that was different from the others... then came the epiphany. I checked and my hunch was confirmed: No Berman or Braga. YES! From what I have seen, this can work, especially if those two are not involved in any way, shape or form. It was impressive. I may actually do something I have never done with any ST movie: go and see it in the theater. Opinion? – Watching... listening... 23:52, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Well, I'm not one of those who are on the "hate Berman/Braga" boat. Yes, they made mistakes, but they also gave us many Trek highlights and they kept the franchise afloat for nearly two decades. Also, I've seen the last five Trek movies in theaters, and will definitely be seeing the new movie in theaters, as well. As for the new movie looking different, yes, it very much does, and that was very much the point. The filmmakers set out to create a Trek that was totally different from any previous incarnations of the franchise, and they appear to have accomplished that goal. It looks very much like a movie rather than just a feature-length episode, ala Star Trek: Insurrection or Star Trek Nemesis. --From Andoria with Love 01:09, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

I don't hate them either. But after seeing crap like "These Are The Voyages..." and other piss-poor fare, I am looking forward to seeing what somebody else is making of ST. I'd love to see J.M. Straczynski get involved; Babylon 5 was superb.

On an unrelated note, this is to you as an American citizen: Congratulations on another successful democratic process. I must say that I am very pleased with the result. :) Out. – Watching... listening... 12:31, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Calling all Hands Edit

I would really like to invite your input on what to do about the Able Seaman situation. Fletcher's notes DO list the rank by that title which contradicts several other Star Trek productions which call that pin simply as Crewman. Please chime in over at Talk:Starfleet ranks. Thanks. -FC 20:03, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

so... Edit

My comment Edit

Had no intent of baiting, aggression, direction, flaming, or anything. It was just meant to be funny. --OuroborosCobra talk 05:01, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

If you say so. :) --From Andoria with Love 09:01, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Spelling coorections? Edit

I'm big on misspelled words.

Is it appropriate to correct them?

Moving images Edit

Just a reminder that if you are going to move images to a new filename, you should check the ""what links here" of the old name to make sure you have found all instances where that image was being used, and fixed them to the new name. Otherwise, you end up with broken images and an excuse for me to make very bad Khan jokes. --OuroborosCobra talk 10:43, 30 December 2008 (UTC)
