Picard(o) signing on! I don't know if I qualify as a Trekkie. I enjoy Star Trek, because I am generally a fan of sci-fi and space opera. I am currently collecting the TV-series DVDs and have a long way to go before my collection is complete (I now have TOS, TAS, TNG and DS9 under my belt). I have all the movies, though. I do not collect paraphernalia or novels and stuff, and frankly I don't care about them either. My primary interest in Star Trek is the TV-series as well as the movies.

Picard(o)Edit

My moniker is of course a pun on "Picard" who is one of my favorite Star Trek characters - mostly because of the way that he is portrayed by Patrick Stewart who's a great actor. The (o) "suffix" is a reference to Robert Picardo who portrays another of my favorite characters - namely, The Doctor.

Original SeriesEdit

The Orignal Series and Voyager are my favorite TV-series. TOS is simply leagues better than any other series. While more primitive in terms of special effects, it does possess a unique something - perhaps the trio James T. Kirk, Spock, and Leonard McCoy, which is not as prevalent in the other series. True, TOS displays more naïvité in the plot lines than the later shows, but this just adds to the charm, and TOS does, as it typical of Star Trek treat some interesting subject matters, and is very far ahead of its time.

VoyagerEdit

Voyager is a different and more personal story. When I was an undergraduate in university, one of the local TV-networks sent two consecutive episodes in the late morning every sunday. I virtually spent every sunday morning, lying in bed, trying to wake up and watching Voyager, while having breakfast. That's a great way to spend your sundays.

Voyage HomeEdit

Do I really have to explain why Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home is one of my favorite Star Trek movies? I mean it has everything: global catastrophes, time travel, action, humor, an environmental message, and whales. It doesn't get better than that.

InsurrectionEdit

Maybe the proof that I don't qualify as a real Trekkie, I actually like Star Trek: Insurrection a lot. I know that many Trekkies don't really like it, but I find it very interesting that Picard and his crew actually disobey orders and run around in civilian style clothings rather than their usual jumpsuits. It also deals with interesting issues like eternal youth, ethnicity, and morality.

Déjà QEdit

While "Deja Q" does deal with a pretty interesting theme, which is kind of a cross-over between Samson losing his powers and Peter crying "Wolf", I like this episode primarily because of the humor and comedy added by John de Lancie's acting.

Cause and EffectEdit

"Cause and Effect" is in many ways an atypically structured episode, which I kind of like. I like the way the same series of events is constantly repeated with supple variations as the crew realize that they might be trapped in some kind of temporal loop. The notion of temporal loop itself is cool! A similar theme is at play in "We'll Always Have Paris", which is also an interesting episode, but it's taken to the extreme in Cause and Effect which seems much more experimental and adventurous structurally.

DarmokEdit

"Darmok" is probably one pf the most interesting episodes to me because I am interested in language and linguistics. While it does suffer from some common misconceptions about language and metaphor, I still think it's great.

Trials and Tribble-ationsEdit

Well, okay, "The Trouble with Tribbles" is a great humoristic episode in itself, but when you actually get both TOS and DS9 in one and the same episode, then things just don't get better.

Far Beyond the StarsEdit

I don't think I even need to comment on this one. Science fiction at its best.

In the Pale MoonlightEdit

"In the Pale Moonlight" is interesting primarily because of the moral issues it deals with, and then I absolutely love Avery Brooks' delivery of Sisko's monologue - very theatrical, very dramatic.

The BorgEdit

The Borg are a fascinating species. I like the combination of the insect hive-mind (supposedly inspired by corporate America) and cybertechnology into one of the meanest enemies of our heroes ever. I must admit I found them more interesting before the addition of the Borg Queen, but never mind that.

VulcansEdit

Okay, you gotta love the Vulcans. I admit it, they're one of my favorite species mainly because of Spock. I find the amalgamation of cold logic and ancient mysticism... fascinating.

The GornEdit

Sorry, but I have a weakness for aliens with saurian faces and bug-eyes, also they appear to be a quite honorable species after all.

Okay, why the hell do people suddenly think it's spelled "existance"? It's been "existence" with an 'e' ever since the word appeared on the shores of England in 1066 with the Norman invaders, and even before that, in Latin, it was with an 'e'... and it's still with an 'e'. It's "existEnce" and it's "existEnt"!
