Moved commentEdit

Hope that you don't mind, but I moved your comment from the image's talk page to the episode's talk page to join the rest of the conversation. -- sulfur 02:18, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Yup, I saw. Perfectly fine, in fact thanks very much for doing it. --OuroborosCobra talk 03:03, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

adding comments to my pageEdit

Please do not re-add comments that were just randomly moved to my page. This comment was from a few months ago and someone just re-added to my page. As you recall, personal attacks can be removed and being threatened because someone does not like what you wrote constitutes personal attack. If you wanna move it to the talk page of 7 of 9 fine, but even then, it is nothing but a personal attack that doesnt belong there. – Distantlycharmed 05:26, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

The message on your page does NOT constitute a personal attack, it is a reminder of policy and what talk pages and discussions are for, and warning you that you are in violation of policy with your actions. A personal attack is something like, "you are a moron, go to hell." The policy in question is one that you have continued to violate, and claimed to be ignorant of. You cannot claim ignorance if it remains on your talk page. You are well aware of the policy regarding blanking messages, it is also on your talk page. Stop. --OuroborosCobra talk 05:38, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Someone threatening you in such a tone over a rather trivial matter is a personal attack. Adding a comment about something on a talk page, like I did with 7 of 9, was not a gross MA policy violation and did not warrant such a reaction by that user. She is clearly blowing it out of proportion. The tone and attitude of that message does not match the action. I am sure you would not appreciate having someone post some threats on your talk page, because...of what...on commenting on a talk about something? Not to mention that this wasn't even on my talk page and was just added a few days ago. I do not have a problem of being reminded of the policy or have it on my talk page - hence not deleting any of the other comments. You, on the other hand, just seem to be doing this to be spiteful - which is not ccol. You also insisted that I keep the other personal attack on my talk page and just re-added it, claiming that it was there for a while now and I should have removed it earlier if it bothered me. Now, someone after a few months, adds this comment to my page and I am supposed to be ok with it? Please refrain from re-adding that to my talk page. This sort of behavior does not make for a good, civil community. – Distantlycharmed 06:16, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

You were not threatened, you were warned. A threat would be something like, "keep doing this and you will be blocked from editing." Hell, even that is a warning. Yes, what you did on 7 of 9 was most definitely deserving of the comments you received. Talk pages are not simply there for you to display personal opinion or distaste with a character, and that is what you were doing. If you don't like receiving warnings about violating policy, don't violate policy. Take a look at my archives, you'll see I have my fair share of warnings, even from administrators, and I don't blank them. You done did wrong, and to top it off you have kept doing it on pages like Talk:Day of the Dove. Generally, I don't care much about people removing things from their talk pages, but you have a pattern of behavior of violating the critique of the very message you are attempting to blank, and have at least once claimed to be "ignorant" of what talk pages are and are not for. If you are going to do that, then expect people like myself and others to enforce another of our policies regarding talk pages (which is also on your page as a warning, that you are violating), archive don't delete. The only one making this uncivil is you. --OuroborosCobra talk 06:57, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Barley Edit

Yes you're right. I should have checked first. — Vince47 20:31, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Changed Template Edit

Yes, I did change it (a while back with approval) :) much better that way since it looks like people were "signing" articles... — Morder 08:55, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Oh definitely, it is a improvement, and removes one of the only instances left on the site where one signs inside articles. I just hadn't used it since you made the change, I guess. You should consider implementing something similar with {{ifd}}. --OuroborosCobra talk 08:58, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Template 'Watch online' Edit

Thanks for your vote of confidence on the template, I thought it was the right thing to do since there is now an authorized site to view each of the TOS episodes. Using your and other people's suggestion, on the current references I've added use of a dummy parameter 'series=TOS' so that if there ever are the other series become available on-line, a switch can be used to select the correct parameters for that series, and allows other series to have whatever parameters they need. Also, I put in a name= parameter as a check against sloppiness; if someone simply copies an item from another entry and forgets to change the cid=/pid= parameters to fit that one, the name will be wrong too and be a dead giveaway. Fighter Bomber Intercepter Pursuit Attack Class Edit

Cobra. I don't want you to think it was belittling CAP or what you do with it. I think we can just disagree on somethings with no hard feelings. — Vince47 04:23, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

I wasn't taking any hard feelings, don't worry. Glad you don't have any either. If you are interested, the "P" designation is still in use today, but to mean "Patrol" (like the P-3 Orion or P-2 Neptune). --OuroborosCobra talk 04:25, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

RED ALERT! Edit

Your Code Entry Seems To Trigger Of RED ALERT

RED ALERT!!!!!

And you learned nothing from it. --OuroborosCobra talk 01:12, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Invitiation to join service record game Edit

Hey, how are you doing. I would like to invite you to take a look at a new internet game I designed. If you wuld like to play it, you can send an e-mail to stsrs@live.com. It requires as much or as little participation as you want and the records generated by the game are regularly e-mailed and can be burned to a CD when/if a character retires. I think you will truely enjoy it and I am looking for live action player. Thank you! -FC 17:49, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

TranslationEdit

well how the hell do you know whether yellow spread is intentional or not

i mean "Gul Mossett" translates to "Yellow Wolliness" in.. something, and there is a dude named gul mossett somewhere in tng --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.19.104.254 (talk).

Great, but it doesn't matter. It is useless trivia unless it was done intentionally. You find out it was intentional or not by looking at the many production sources we have, like the Encyclopedia, the various series companions, commentary on the DVDs, etc. We are not short of production side quotes. The thing is, "Gul" is not part of these characters name, it is their rank, so ever single "Gul" in the Cardassian military is going to start with "yellow." This does not need noting unless we know it was intentional on the part of the writers, as opposed to simple coincidence. --OuroborosCobra talk 07:59, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks Edit

Heh, I can't believe I missed that in my copy/paste! :( — Morder 06:15, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

No problem. It might be useful to pronouns more in your articles on these ships to reduce the number of alterations you have to make on each copy/paste. --OuroborosCobra talk 06:16, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Romulus Edit

Welcome to the war!- JustPhil 00:03, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

It won't be fun. --OuroborosCobra talk 00:04, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Orbital SkydrivingEdit

I asked if the shuttle B'ELanna leaped out of was a class 2 shuttle. My second was if orbital skydrivers use class 2 shuttles when they going sykdriving. Those are not the same questions.--67.165.88.232 23:01, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Bullshit, yes they are the same question and you know it. You have a massive repeated behavior of being impatient and needing your answer NOW NOW NOW. You know what? Quit it and go away. --OuroborosCobra talk 23:02, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm sorry and i will leave you alone now.--67.165.88.232 23:14, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Ouch. Yes, they were indeed the same questions, but was rebuffing him/her like that really necessary?– Crimsondawn hears you... 22:25, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Uarenice Edit

Star Wars is better then Star trek GO STAR WARS!!!!!! --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Uarenice (talk • contribs).

Oh look, vandalism. Too bad I'm a bad target, seeing as I also like Star Wars. --OuroborosCobra talk 16:59, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

sorry i was trying to make a joke! guess i chose the wrong guy! oh well thanks for your repley and for being polite by the way who is your favorite Star Wars Person?

Hello...and Greetings from the Past Edit

Just saying hello. I came to Memory Alpha due to my brother Eyes Only, whom you may remember. He certainly remembers you, by the way. I recall with humor the foul moods he was in during and after the times the two of you locked horns over some matter. *LOL* Anyway, he does not come here anymore, but he told me to tell you that, though he never always got along with you (and at times, found you, in his words: "infuriating" *LOL*) he always respected your work here and wishes you the best.

As for me, I joined MA finally after visiting anonymously while my brother was a registered user. He made it very clear to me what MA is, and what it is not. I intend to act accordingly in any contribution I make here. Nice to meet you. :) – Crimsondawn hears you... 20:20, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

The Whimsical Scripps Edit

That was amazingly fast how quickly you took his comment off of my page. So fast, I didn't even notice it. Thanks, and kudos. Italianajt 17:38, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Scripps Edit

I don't think he's a troll... just a kid. He's not being malicious - he's just misguided. --- Jaz 23:14, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Jaz, you aren't looking at his behavior. He's impersonated an admin, he's gone to user pages asking irrelevant questions that were in fact answered on the user page, just to bother them, he's posted irrelevancy on talk pages throughout the site, he's had virtually every single edit reverted. He's a troll. He's just here to make fun until he is blocked, which if the admins of this site (you included) would do their job, would be soon. But then, we let "Trek & CSI" run amok forever, let StoryMaster trash talk pages and forum threads for a month or more, and will likely do the same here. --OuroborosCobra talk 23:19, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Improper indentation Edit

I hit the colon button by accident in this case, but I would like to know how an extra space is improper.--31dot 22:09, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

From the page itself:
" The first contributor to a talk page should have no indentation in the message. The next person starts their message with one colon (:), and the third person uses two colons (::), and so on."
You almost always add two colons when making your responses as the second poster in a conversation. That is not the proper indentation policy. One colon, not two. --OuroborosCobra talk 22:11, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for your assistance, I will make an effort to be more observant.--31dot 22:14, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks Edit

Heh, you're right. I was close though! :) — Morder 02:05, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Nomination Edit

I meant to remove it after an hour or so because the user who added it was Trek CIS and, well, I didn't want him to start on some sort of edit war on these pages as he tends to do...I put it there as a sorta stop gap - I just forgot to remove it. Thanks. :) — Morder

Stuka Edit

Well, if you're going to delete the info about the Stuka, then you should delete stuff on the P-51 Mustang.- JustPhil 23:50, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

I didn't delete anything, 31dot did. I'm actually the one who re-added stuff after him. What he (attempted) to delete is what wasn't stated on screen. The amount of operational information stated for the Mustang may not be the same as the Stuka. For example, your information on bomb carrying ability and dive bomb accuracy was never stated in canon, but the information on sirens and machine guns was (albeit inaccurately). --OuroborosCobra talk 23:53, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

On the P-51 page it says that they could carry a 2000lb bomb and fly from London to Berlin and back. Pretty sure they didn't mention that in Storm Front, other than the .50 cal guns.- JustPhil 23:56, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Feel free to remove what you don't think was mentioned. --OuroborosCobra talk 23:57, 13 June 2009 (UTC)

Editing Edit

I need some help with editing. I made too many edits at once because I'm having trouble keeping paragraphs in an article with the appropriate amount of space between them. They keep ending up being too close together or too far apart. The result is several blank sections in the article. Is there a way to delete the blank sections in order to restore the format to a proper state? --Numberone 17:43, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

ohaiEdit

Hi, just read your rant with 31dot on the Centaur discussion page. Just wanted to say I agree with you, I couldn't see it in the pic either and had actually checked months ago but I decided not to bring it up. The very first thing 31dot said to me on Memory Alpha left me with a very smug first impression of him, so now I'm just avoiding him. User:Vulfie

Since this doesn't involve the Centaur anymore I'll mention it here- Cobra, I'm not treating you like an idiot- I respect you and your contributions very much- but it treats me like an idiot to point out all the ways I made a mistake especially when I concede that you are correct. Are you a perfect human being? You ask me not to belittle you but you have no problem belitting me. I have no personal animosity towards you whatsoever- but you ask things of me that you don't do yourself.
Vulfie, I'm not sure what I said to give you offense, but I apologize.--31dot 13:09, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
You weren't treating me like an idiot, you were treating Vulfie like an idiot when he first got here, and it showed. You made someone not want to be here. I'm not looking for perfection, but at the time of that action you had a pattern of behavior of every day, sometimes more than once, not bothering to read what people had actually written, not following policies, nominating things for deletion under justifications that were flat false, etc. When an administrator of all people is the one at fault, you can be damn sure I'll call them out for that. I ask nothing that I'm not doing myself. I don't come along and belittle a new editor for something they did not even ask, I don't nominate things for deletion with criteria like "there is only one ship" when there in fact are more than one. I come up with real criteria when I want to nominate something at all. I'm expecting that the administrators here are at least not grossly lower in standards than myself, not some golden pedestal above me. --OuroborosCobra talk 15:44, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
I'm not sure where to begin......I treated no one like an idiot. As I told him, that comment was not directed at him in particular, and if he had expressed his concern to me earlier I would have apologized much sooner.
Are you telling me that you always read every comment and every page on a subject before commenting on it? All the time, every time? Do you follow every policy perfectly? I'm not sure which policies I have allegedly violated, but whatever.(The spacing one, guess I should be locked up for that) And you say you're not looking for perfection?
Instead of belitting new editors you belittle the ones that have been here. I guess that's different. I'm not sure where I claimed to be on a "golden pedestal", I know damn well that I am no better than anyone else here.
If you disagree with my criteria on deleting something, such as the Delta Flyer type article, that is your right to do so, but I (and others) felt that my reasons were valid, at least initially. The whole point of discussing it is to bring forth information and arrive at a consensus. That's what was done. I don't see the problem there. It certainly is not wrong or un-"real".
I'm not sure what I did to you to deserve this. I am truly sorry for giving you offense, but I am an imperfect person and if you want me to be so you are out of luck.--31dot 23:46, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
You are flat lying in multiple instances now. For example, this wasn't a case of the off mistake on your part, this was a pattern of repetitive behavior. For another, you presented flat false information on the case of the Delta Flyer. There is no simple way to put it, and others did not agree with you on it. You stated that there was only one example of the class (false) and that we don't make "type" articles for shuttlecraft (false). This is not a case of "I disagree with you," it is a case of flat false assertions on your part. It would be like me nominating the Galaxy Class article for deletion by claiming that the Enterprise-D was a Constitution class vessel. You'd call me on it, for good reason, because I'd be flat wrong. You plainly nominated an article for deletion under false criteria, and when I pointed that out you had the gall to suggest that I come up with criteria for you! You most certainly did belittle a new editor when you flat out ignored what they wrote, and yes that is something I try not to do. Had it been a one off mistake, I could have ignored it, but it has been something that has happened multiple times on your account. Don't like that I called you on it? I honestly couldn't give a crap. I'm not here to give you praise every time you turn around. Shape up and start acting with the standards of the other admins here, or even the general editors. Now, I haven't followed you around, I haven't made a continuing deal about this. In fact, I haven't even brought it up again until this appeared on my talk page this morning. Don't come crying to me if you don't want grief. --OuroborosCobra talk 23:54, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
I have never asked for your praise. I did not suggest that you come up with criteria for me, I suggested that you simply state it instead of beating around the bush. But I guess that's a crime. And you seem to be the only one who feels that I am not up to standards. No one else has said so that I know of, at least. What does that say about you?--31dot 00:08, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
"simply state it instead of beating around the bush" IS making up criteria for you. It is asking me to come up with criteria differing from your in support of deletion. Guess what, not my job, not even my opinion on the status of the page. YOU were the nominator, it was YOUR job to come up with valid criteria, which you utterly and completely failed to do. As for everyone else, once again, I don't give a God damn. Everyone else around here (except for Alan and Bp, but fortunately he's almost never around) plays mister nice nice with everyone, stringing along even vandals like StoryMaster for weeks. So yeah, it says nothing, because they aren't frank on anything. Now do you want to keep the argument going another few days, or do you want to do what I already did weeks ago and drop the whole thing? Once again, I did not restart this bullshit, you did. Leave it alone if you want it to end. After all, it had ended, weeks ago. --OuroborosCobra talk 00:15, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
I am fine with stopping, but just like you I am not going to bow down and let people walk all over me with half truths. And swearing isn't necessary. Beating around the bush isn't making up criteria for me. If I propose something and it is not correct, just say why it isn't correct. Don't dance around it.--31dot 00:22, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
In the context? Yeah, it is, because I had flat out stated why it wasn't incorrect already. I had not been ambiguous in the slightest. Tata, I'll be archiving this now. --OuroborosCobra talk 00:24, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

Regarding...Edit

Regarding the last talk page we both participated in, I probably could have taken the same action that was taken here in dealing with that situation on Memory Beta -- but it's been kind of fun to string it along. I feel like a kitten playing with a bloodied but living mouse -- why kill it now? -- Captain MKB 00:15, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Point taken Edit

With regards to the anon user, my sarcasm was just about as the same as {{edithint-test}}, however, next time I'll just use that template if it appeases you. On a side note, I feel your edit summary is out of line and would be better put on my talk page if you have issue with the way I handled that anon. Telling me I look like an ass "publicly" for all to see rather than "privately" for those who only check my page to see is my issue. (Yes I understand that my talk page is still public but it's not as public as your edit summary) — Morder (talk) 05:13, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Actually, I'd say "test" is not appropriate either, as it does nothing to tell the editor in question what they have actually done wrong. What is needed is something contextual, instructional, to the point, and most of all helpful. "Test" doesn't meet any of those, and sarcasm fails on the last point. One of the things taught in basic leadership training in many organizations is to avoid sarcasm, it is simply demeaning. It encourages conflict, it doesn't teach an actual lesson, and generally hurts your effort rather than helping. Take the specific case in question, this was an anon's first edit to Memory Alpha, and the result was a sarcastic remark from an administrator on their page. While their edit obviously did not belong, it was well written out, not simply a "test" of the system (usually written like "ghbsbvs," to see if editing is possible, as written in the template), and it wasn't flat vandalism (THE NEW MOVIE SUCKED AND ABRAMS SHOULD BURN!). It was an edit in good faith, even it it did not belong, and the response was sarcasm. Counterproductive. If I were that anon, I'd do one of two things. Either decide that this website and the people on it suck and never return, or come back as an angry vandal, only to be blocked. The last thing I'd do is learn from my mistake. This is a little different from when Shran was leaving sarcasm on that anon page who was adding images already on articles and then removing them, again and again and again. We'd tried the nice and helpful route, and the anon had simply ignored us. At least we tried, though.
That said, you are absolutely right in that I could have handled this differently. I could have used an edit summary that simply said "replacing with contextual help" and left you a comment on your user talk. Flat out, that is how I should have handled this, and I will strive to do so in the future. You and others may have noticed I have had a growing friction and dissatisfaction with the administration of this site, but that is no excuse for me treating you badly. I apologize. --OuroborosCobra talk 05:28, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

You're absolutely right, I took his edit to be more along the lines of vandalism but after reading it again I can see where it was a good faith edit. I also think I had a "damn. another movie hater guy...give it a rest, people" type attitude. You're also right about us, we all could be a lot better at helping new people on this site and I know I haven't been doing that. I think back to my first edits here and there was one admin who made a positive impact on my edits here and I think I should return the favor to new users more often. Hmm...I have an idea I might pursue in relation to this. Thanks and I appreciate your comments. — Morder (talk) 05:50, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Please don't feel I was eavesdropping, but I saw this and agree we should have a standard template for good faith edits that need to be removed. I through one together, see User:Archduk3/Edit, though I assume Morder is working on one since he has created a page. Eh, either way, feel free to take a look or not. - Archduk3:talk 06:43, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

IRC pm Edit

Hey, just remembered I saw you try to contact me on IRC a few days ago. Sorry about that. What was up? --From Andoria with Love 20:21, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

The situation regarding you, me, and Morder, regarding 71.113.230.3. As you can see from above on this talk page, it has been resolved. I would suggest you read that conversation, as it does somewhat pertain to you, and admin behavior. --OuroborosCobra talk 20:25, 15 August 2009 (UTC)

Ahh, I see. for the record, I re-added Morder's comments because I thought you removed it on accident. I didn't actually read what he wrote nor did I read your edit summary until well after I had re-added the comment, by which time I felt it was best to just leave things alone. My bad on that. I agree with your reasons for its removal, though perhaps it would have been best to reply to it then give the proper comment, rather than simply removing Morder's comment entirely. Just my suggestion. :-/ --From Andoria with Love 04:38, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Consensus on Chakotay's Rank Edit

There are not one, but three long discussions on the Chakotay article discussion page about whether he was a commander or a lt. commander. You made several contributions so I thought you were the best person to ask. What is the final decision?

Important note to any readers of this message:
This is NOT intended to clutter Cobra's talk page with yet another long discussion on the matter. Save that for the article discussion page PLEASE. I am ONLY asking what the final decision is. I want that CLEAR.Crimsondawn hears you... 22:11, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

The consensus is that Chakotay is a commander.– Cleanse 23:30, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
