By 23rd and 24th centuries, it was generally accepted that brain activity could have a significant influence on the environment or on other individuals. The exact means by which this occurs varies and was not always well understood. Examples of measurable effects of neurological activity are the psionic and bioelectric fields, although psychological effects were also observed in relation to warp bubbles, the Great Barrier and some extreme areas of space.

Telepathy and empathy allow individuals to communicate by thought alone, and are prevalent among such species as Betazoids, Halanans and Vulcans.

Enterprise modelsEdit

Three foot model Built by Anderson Co. (November 1964) Built to demonstrate the Enterprise design to Gene Roddenberry during filming of TOS: "The Cage". Seen in TOS: "Requiem for Methuselah" After the show's cancellation, the 3-foot model was lent out by Gene Roddenberry, and disappeared. It's current whereabouts are unknown.

Eleven foot model Built by Richard Datin and co. (Delivered to Anderson on 29 December 1964) A very short history: December 1964: The original configuration (TOS: "The Cage"). January 1965: Preliminary test shots for possible series with minor modifications August/September 1965: Modifications completed for what is now second pilot (TOS: "Where No Man Has Gone Before"). April 1966: Further modifications for regular series run (TOS: "The Corbomite Maneuver" onwards). (1966) 1974: The model arrives at the Smithsonian NASM in a crate, with minor damage and missing parts. It's restored. 1984: NASM renovation 1991: NASM renovation, adding very visible weathering and hull lining that were not present on the original model. This is the current state of the model.

AMT model Model kit produced by AMT from 1966. Was featured as the heavily damaged USS Constellation in TOS: "The Doomsday Machine". By today's standards, the model kit is highly inaccurate, and has different proportions, curves and details compared to the eleven-foot model.

Animated model Seen in Star Trek: The Animated Series Created by rotoscoping of TOS effect shots. Was also featured as a monochrome 'inflatable starship decoy'.

Trials and Tribble-ations model Built by Greg Jein in 1996 for DS9: "Trials and Tribble-ations", celebrating Star Trek's 30th anniversary. Exactly half the size of the eleven-foot model.

Defiant model Built in 2005 by Koji Kuramura and Rob Bonchune of EdenFX and Doug Drexler of the Star Trek art department. Depicted the USS Defiant in ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly". Relabeled and featured as the USS Enterprise in the final scene of ENT: "These Are the Voyages...".

Remastered model Built by CBS Paramount Television in 2006 for remastered TOS episodes. An updated version was used from TOS: "The Trouble with Tribbles" onwards. For TOS: "Mirror, Mirror", a variation of the model was created to represent the Imperial starship Enterprise. It was based on the first configuration of the eleven foot model, and had a darker, metallic grey hull.
