Admin says hiEdit

Thanks for the quick response to the Nominations for administratorship page. I wasn't expecting anything so soon, that's got to be some sort of record (9 days). Anyways, thank you ever so much.--Tim Thomason 13:23, 7 Jan 2006 (UTC)

George W. Bush Edit

Cid, why'd you revert my expansion of the GWB article. All I did was add valid information to the page. It was a stub and needed to be expanded. I restoring the article. -- Harry Belafonte 23:01, 12 Jan 2006 (UTC)

Please don't. I already left a comment on your talk page regarding this. Thanks. -- Cid Highwind 23:02, 12 Jan 2006 (UTC)

Re:Removal of template / bot Edit

You know, I never even thought of that. Yes, that would be much easier, so I think I like that idea better. ;) But, yeah, I guess it should be discussed a bit more. --From Andoria with Love 03:03, 14 Jan 2006 (UTC)

Voting Rules? Edit

Which talk page did you mean? --Memory 22:54, 15 Jan 2006 (UTC)

Re: Signature Issue Edit

Nope. It just showed up like you typed it. Thanks for trying, though. -Platypus Man | Talk 23:54, 18 January 2006 (UTC)

 • Tim Starling just suggested the same thing at Ten Forward and it worked. It was then that I noticed that you told me to type it without spaces, which was not what I did. He presented it without spaces, so that was what I put in and it worked. Since you did actually suggest the correct thing (I just messed it up), I'd like to thank you and tell you that you were right. -Platypus Man | Talk 20:41, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Image page issues Edit

Thanks for the fix on those image page issues Cid -- came out even better than i had hoped. I should probably try and brush up on my style sheet code so i can contribute more in that area! -- Captain Mike K. Barteltalk 01:05, 19 January 2006 (UTC)

Babel templatesEdit

After the deletion of the various babel categories (that appear in red on this page), do we plan on keeping any or all of these: Template:User de-4, Template:User de-3, Template:User de-2, Template:User de-1, Template:User es-4, Template:User es-3, Template:User es-2, Template:User es-1, Template:User fr-3, Template:User fr-2, Template:User fr-1, Template:User it-2, Template:User it-1?

Also, I attempted to remove those categories from the various user pages that still had the deleted categories (with my bot) and it wouldn't let me do it:

C:\Program Files\Python24\pywikipedia>category.py remove
Checked for running processes. 1 processes currently running, including the current process.
Reading dump from category.dump.bz2
Please enter the name of the category that should be removed: User it-1
Getting Category:User it-1...
Getting page User:SmokeDetector47
ERROR: User:SmokeDetector47 is not in category Category:User it-1!
There are no subcategories in category Category:User it-1
Getting page Category:User it-1
Dumping to category.dump.bz2, please wait...
C:\Program Files\Python24\pywikipedia>

Even though SmokeDetector47's page doesnt have the category on it, his name shows up on the deleted category page. I'm not sure if there is something else I am overlooking, but I guess my primary goal here is to remove all traces of the aforementioned red category links. --Alan del Beccio 07:12, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Highwind bot Edit

I noticed your bot added pna-imagenodisclaimer to a couple images that I'm not sure it should have, including File:Mov adm.png, which brings me to the question on whether how it is currently "disclaimered" is correct, or if we have or need a better template to cover user-made-recreations of production-images? --Alan del Beccio 07:00, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

Hey, I think I found a link you might be interested in at http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/pywikipediabot I selected the file snapshot-20050825.zip and now everything seems to work fine per what you were tutoring me through on CGI:IRC. :) --Alan del Beccio 16:36, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure what happened here [1], but the history says "Robot: Changing Category:Memory Alpha images (individuals)", but what it actually did was remove the category. Or was that what it was supposed to do?--Alan del Beccio 14:34, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

It's an incorrect re-categorization, of course, but the bot actually did what it was supposed to do. I wanted to test a change I did to the bot programming, and doing it that way was just quicker than the other way around (the bot reads the whole content of the category he is supposed to change, which takes some time). I would have corrected it during the bot run, but thanks for catching it anyway. -- Cid Highwind 14:48, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

TOS planetEdit

I just noticed your note at IfD, but i read it too late, after naming File:TOS planet high orbit.jpg, File:TOS planet orbit.jpg, File:TOS planet viewscreen.jpg. Do you think we should leave the images at these titles, and number the rest in a simpler fashion as you suggested? -- Captain M.K. Barteltalk 16:05, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

Attempt at Canon/Valid Resources Edit

I had a few minutes during a meeting this afternoon where my physical but not mental presence was required. I took a crack at the Valid Resource thing, but didn't want to just throw it out there for general comment; I think that the idea of revising validity to make things clearer needs to simmer in people's minds for just a little bit.

I respect your writings and approach to things, and would like to help if possible. If you want me to send you what I worked on for ideas, please send me your email to randy.holland@lycos.com. If not, that's okay; no offense taken. I just think that clarity and conclusiveness - even if it doesn't end up the way I think it should - would be better than what we now have, and I'd like to do what I can to promote that. Aholland 23:56, 14 February 2006 (UTC)

I think the best way of doing this would be to just add your suggestions somewhere, perhaps on your own user page, and let the community decide. Sending them to me first would just add another step to that process, because I would bring them up for discussion anyway. However, if you prefer it that way, and won't have any problems with me putting them on this page, eventually, you can of course send any suggestions via mail. I will send you my address in a moment. -- Cid Highwind 00:12, 15 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll put it up on my page then later. I wasn't sure of the protocol and knew that you had been involved before. Aholland 01:31, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

Image copyright template Edit

Hey, Cid. I thought I'd point out the issue with the "image copyright" template, and probably other templates: for some reason, the HTML coding isn't working. Know what can be done to fix it? --From Andoria with Love 11:14, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, my mistake. I meant to use Template:Image paramount. Obviously, it's getting late on my end. (If you consider 6 in the morning as "late" :P)--From Andoria with Love 11:22, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

Ah, OK. I already wondered about that, because I didn't see any errors... Better get some sleep! ;) -- Cid Highwind 11:28, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

So What's To Be Done? Edit

I had thought that the current canon policy would make things easier around here. I appear to have been wrong. There seems to be a movement among some of the more vocal people to allow everything in as sources - scripts, deleted lines, interviews, other websites, etc. - with very few exceptions. Is that really the way this place is going to go? If so, I'll probably abandon it and allow the fanon to simply take over; it isn't worth my time to spend hours defending the primacy of episodes as seen over all else. If not, is there anything that can be done to stop the madness and get the site back to what it has the ability to become: the sole source on the web for verifiable, accurate data on Trek as seen on TV (and movies), with clear distinctions made for what is NOT seen on TV? I fear given the rabid nature of some that the pain of getting is "right" won't be worth it, but would appreciate your - always sensible - thoughts on it. Thanks. Aholland 05:00, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

Re:"Mainpage" tablesEdit

Thanks for your comments on my user-talk page.

Do you remember when I started this mini-project of mine? Its been almost a year I reckon. The major reason I wanted to get involved with it was to find a better way of organising all the images for each actor on their pages. This has evolved over the time I've been compiling the list, which is always available on my userpage, btw.

If there's a better way of arranging the pictures which has eluded me, then, by all means, start implementing it whenever you find the time. Also, I'd be eager to know how this feature works, so I can help with it too.

Once again, thanks for taking the time to write to me :-) Zsingaya 18:00, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

PreferencesEdit

There seems to be something wrong with the Special:Preferences page. I know next to nothing about CSS issues, but if you can take a look I'd be extremely grateful.--Tim Thomason 23:37, 10 April 2006 (UTC)

Problem with a template Edit

Hi Cid... a question. Do you have an insight as to why Template:Babel-X works fine on Wikipedia, but not here? Both are running the same versions of MediaWiki, and as far as I can tell, it shouldn't be an extension issue. Here, the HTML <tr> and <td> tags don't seem to be interpreted properly any more. I think they used to work fine in the past. Thanks! -- Renegade54 14:24, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

I'll have a more proper look into this later, but by quickly comparing this template with [2], the Wikipedia one uses a different syntax - no "if=" in the template call, and "#if" instead of simply "if". Could this be the problem? -- Cid Highwind 14:33, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
Ours was a direct copy of Wikipedia's from April 10th, and apparently theirs changed between then and now. I replaced ours with their current version, but the problem seems to persist. -- Renegade54 15:37, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Gallery featureEdit

Wow, thanks Cid. I'll have a go on one of the tables to see how it looks. It certainly looks easier to set up and maintain. Zsingaya 15:05, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

I had a go on Erick Avari's page, and, you're right, it looks neat and its very easy to maintain. With your approval, I'd like to start updating all the tables to this format. Zsingaya 15:13, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
Hey, Cid, I just thought it best that I check it with you before I go update all the tables, and then you say, "Hang on, don't do that...". I just didn't want to waste my time / your time. Oh, and thanks for changing the centering formatting. Zsingaya 22:35, 14 April 2006 (UTC)

"Spock's Brain" Edit

Why did you roll back my edit? "Spock's Brain" is a great episode and is usually regarded as being one of the best Star Trek episodes. I don't know why someone thought it was one of the worst and so changed the article accordingly. --Defiant | Talk 12:30, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

See User talk:Defiant.

Yes, I still think the article incorporates too much POV. I was under the impression was considered a great episode, but maybe that's just my personal opinion of it. Perhaps we could give an indication of what most fans think of it by including factual information on a poll or somesuch, like some Enterprise articles have.

Also, do you know why the "talk" link doesn't work when I add --~~~~ to my posts? Any help would be appreciated. --Defiant | Talk 12:47, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Iron Edit

Sorry to overwrite you like that, but I had just finished a rewrite of iron that expanded the article significantly. Feel free to play with it as you see fit. Aholland 15:03, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

No need to apologize - I was just trying to place the episode reference in a meaningful context according to the talk page, but you made "Iron" a real article. Great work! :) -- Cid Highwind 15:17, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

statistical probabilities (summary) Edit

The episode summary on this page needs a rewrite. There are many typos and other errors, repetitions ("his friends" etc.) and the prose sounds awkward at times.

I'm the one who did the first draft of the episode's summary and I just did some rewriting. I would like your feedback on that. I look forward to improve my "prose", as my principal contributions are with episode summaries. Fortunately, there are many people already helping for the typos. If you want (and have the time to), you can have a look at the first two seasons of ENT and the S5, S6 of DS9. -- Rcog 07:02, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Featured Articles Edit

Hey Cid, I have a question about the FA process. Ghosts has been up for about 2 weeks, and all objections have been resolved. I'm not sure if I am allowed to take the initiative to make it featured (template, list, ect) or if an admin should do it. Jaz talk 14:58, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

If it fulfills all criteria (time of being nominated, 5 votes either support or resolved oppose, ...), which this one apparently does, it is not necessary to wait for an admin to make it featured. Just go ahead... :) -- Cid Highwind 15:02, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

IRC Edit

Cid, if your here, can you hop over to the IRC for a couple minutes. Jaz talk 23:41, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Neural parasite links Edit

Hey, Cid. When you get a chance, could you have your HighwindBot change all the links to Neural parasite (TOS) and Neural parasite (TNG) to Neural parasite (23rd century) and Neural parasite (24th century), respectively? I asked Kobi to do the same thing with Morn, so I guess it's basically whoever gets to it first. Anyways, it would be great if you could do that. Thanks in advance. :) --From Andoria with Love 21:12, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Is done btw. -- Kobi 15:26, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Demon -> Demon (episode) Edit

Can we get you (or another admin type) to move the Demon page (Voyager episode) to Demon (episode)?

Along with this, we'd also have Demon (disambiguation) moved to Demon, and we should _probably_ shift the Enterprise episode "Demons" to Demons (episode) and add a redirect from "Demons" to Demon. That would (should?) cover all bases to clean these up a bit.

Now, how confusing was all of that? -- Sulfur 16:08, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Not much... ;) See Talk:Demon (episode) for a further reply. -- Cid Highwind 16:44, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

"NCC-63646"Edit

I've offered up the above article for deletion on the deletion page. Would you mind taking a look and adding your vote as you feel appropriate? Thanks - and I wouldn't ask except that it seems the thing is being ignored by everyone!  :( Aholland 20:05, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

A couple of people have weighed in now, so don't feel pressured to vote if you don't want to - thanks anyway! Aholland 20:54, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Re:Main page suggestion Edit

I commented on User talk:Cid Highwind/Main Page. Enjoy. :) --From Andoria with Love 01:58, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Hey, Cid. I'm heading off to bed, so if Lestatdelc has anymore questions about canon, could you try to answer them for me? If you can't or if you're too busy, that's fine, I just thought I'd ask anyway. Also, I tried explaining things to him on his talk page, but I'm not sure I explained things well enough, so if you could fill in any gaps, that would be great. Thanks! :) --From Andoria with Love 12:12, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

GreekEdit

Thanks for your help with the Template:Greek! i'm pretty excited for how it came out (i'm done now BTW) :)-- Captain M.K.B. 20:31, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

note about PNA list Edit

I noticed that you made a page for oldest PNAs using the forum extension. Just FYI, the forum extension is based on DynamicPageList extension. Forum mostly just adds the css classes to make "new" threads have an icon next to them. Also, the date column is usefull. Using the standard <DynamicPageList> (DPL2 doesn't seem to work here) the code might be:

<DynamicPageList>
namespace=0
category=Memory Alpha pages needing attention
count=50
ordermethod=lastedit
order=ascending
redirects=true
</DynamicPageList>

Even if you decided to stick with <Forum>, you might still like to add "namespace=0" so that pna categories and pna templates are not included (although maybe a template needs attention?). --Bp 16:47, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

Followup to this (in here because it's related)... I've been working through unformatted articles (as in, ones with the unformatted template on them), so in your travels through the PNA list, if you come across any that should be listed as unformatted, slam that template on 'em, and I'll likely get to them fairly soon as I work through the list. -- Sulfur 19:20, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

about forum bugsEdit

I talked to Algorithm, who created <forum>, on IRC and he said that both the cache problem for ten forward and the namespace=0 problem are known. The TF problem is because MA uses MediaWiki 1.7alpha, it is fixed in later versions. And the namespace=0 problem is fixed in DPLForum 2.1 (MA uses 2.0). JasonR said he would put upgrading DPLforum on his to-do list. About the Mediawiki upgrade, I don't know when that will happen. Anyway, FYI. --Bp 04:41, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

IP Spam Edit

I was wondering if you could put your 2 cents into this. Thanks. Jaz talk 21:52, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Featured Status Edit

Being an admin and all I know you'll know. Design patents was accepted as a feature article, but now what? Do I erase the voting discussion and put a note on the article itself that it is featured? Do I list it somewhere? Or can only administrators do that? I tried to find some direction on the policy pages, but either it's not there or I completely missed it. Thanks! Aholland 11:43, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Centering in notice boxes Edit

For some reason, the CENTER attribute seems to have disappeared on all notice boxes, along with the text wrapping that was previously present. Everything is now left-justified, even on notices that I hadn't touched. Any ideas? -- Renegade54 13:33, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Yes, that's something I changed while working on the relevant CSS anyway, because the "centered" appearance was criticized somewhat. Sorry for any confusion that might have caused... :) -- Cid Highwind 14:04, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
Ahhh, ok, no problem... I just got worried a bit, after my last, ummm, faux pas. :) -- Renegade54 14:17, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Image upload screen problem Edit

Here is the screenshot you wanted. File:Bp-broken.PNG. --Bp 21:01, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

Preferences Edit

I am having preference troubles. People can leave their autograph with a link to reach them, and I have little knowledge about the toolbar. It confuses me how to operate the different options. You can also somehow upload images to your user page/profile, right? Also, the toolbar on the email options confuses me. There are descriptions, but I still don't know how to operate it. Yes, the wiki formatting scares the crap out of me. I appreciate anything you can give me. If you can redirect me to such available info, I'll be content.

It's just how to do all this stuff, since I'm hardly online. You know, the details. Thank you for helping me out!

Below is supposed to be my signature with timestamp. The Wiki format here shows just a few dashes and squiggly symbols of which I know not the name of. I hope it came out right, so I'll see shortly.

--V'Ger 19:35, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

Episode images Edit

Thanks for your comment! Drunken Trip and Malcolm was the only image I could think of for the episode page, and, yep, they do look funny on that one! ;-)

I'm currently going from one episode to another (early TNG seasons), completing the episode pages with all references, quotes, trivia and also a fitting episode image. This takes quite some time, so I only manage to do one episode per day. If you have any episode that really needs a fitting picture, tell me, and I'll find and add a pic. Otherwise, I'll eventually cover all episodes, in about 2 years when, I continue at this pace...;-)--Jörg 20:33, 31 May 2006 (UTC)

A couple of things... Edit

Hi Cid. First, it looks like "Start a Discussion" template is broken for some reason. It doesn't look like the template itself has changed, but it doesn't seem to be working on the pages it's on, like your (and others) talk page. Second, is there a way for the "noicon" class to be extended to the "span" tag as well as the "div" tag? Thanks! -- Renegade54 14:10, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

It seems to be broken because of the space in "User talk:". The "external" link thing doesn't like it at all in the template. -- Sulfur 14:33, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
Yes that was most likely the case, I have fixed it now I presume -- Ⓚⓞⓑⓘ 14:41, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
Yep, that fixed it. I wonder what broke it, though? The template itself hasn't changed since last December... odd. -- Renegade54 15:19, 9 June 2006 (UTC)
Possibly the upgrade. -- Sulfur 15:31, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Bot work Edit

Cid, could you have your bot add the template:realworld to every article in the performer and production categories? -- Jaz talk 00:07, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
