In 2374, they attacked the crew of USS Voyager this way and claimed the ship. The Dream Alien was awoken by Chakotay in an attempt to learn more about the species' technology and plans. The alien explained that the dream state is their reality. For centuries they've been harmed by "waking species," and now they are retaliating.
