Two Armstrong-type ships in 2259

Prior to the USS Enterprise's departure to Qo'noS in 2259, two ships of this type were at Starbase 1. A ship with a brown-colored hull was holding station near the base, while its gray-colored sister ship was assigned to berth B2. (Star Trek Into Darkness)

The berth, B2, of the gray ship was seen on the cover of Cinefex, Issue 134. [1]

A brown-colored ship of this type was also depicted in the Star Trek - The Art of the Film book for Star Trek. In the book, this ship was named and registered as USS Excelsior (NCC-1729) at Memory Beta, the wiki for licensed Star Trek works. According to the novelization of Star Trek, the Excelsior participated in the battle at Vulcan and was destroyed by the Narada in 2258.
