The USS Tripoli (NCC-19386) was a Federation cruiser that was in service with Starfleet from the mid-to-late 24th century. (TNG: "Datalore")

The Tripoli was the only starship to respond to the distress call from the Omicron Theta colony, following its destruction by the Crystalline Entity in 2338. Its landing party discovered a signaling beacon that led them to the deactivated Soong-type android, Data. (TNG: "Datalore")

During the late 2360s the Tripoli served as a holding vessel for starship components on the outer rim of the surplus depot at Qualor II, in sector 12-Delta-4. In 2368 the Tripoli received goods on a regular schedule, however, unknown to the depot quartermaster at the time, the ship was removed and its position used by a smuggler ship to steal the components. (TNG: "Unification I")

The Tripoli later fought in the Dominion War. In 2374, it listed several Starfleet members killed or missing in action. The list included Matata Kimya, Alan Kobayashi, Beverly Kurts, Jay Laprade, Paul Lawrence, Kathy Leprich, Lester Levesconte, Faith Levesconte, Rose Limli, and Mindy Long. (DS9: "In the Pale Moonlight")

The Tripoli was identified in the Star Trek Encyclopedia as an Hokule'a-class starship. Its registry was derived from okudagrams appearing in "Unification I" and "In the Pale Moonlight". It was possible that the last two Tripoli references were made in regards to a newer, different ship than the one mentioned in "Datalore". However, without any direct evidence to support this, this article assumes that it was the same ship.
"Tripoli" in Greek means "Three Cities," and was the name of several places in Ancient Greece and the Greek Mediterranean, and of more distant locations named for the ancient cities. It is unknown which (if any) of these the Tripoli was named for, although it is likely named either after the capital city of Libya, or for either of the two US Navy ships of the same name (both named for the action in the Barbary Wars).
