The USS Sarajevo (NCC-38529) was a Federation starship that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century.
The Sarajevo disappeared in the Gamma Quadrant some time prior to 2373, and was at that time presumed destroyed by the Dominion. (DS9: "In Purgatory's Shadow")
In 2374, Sarajevo reported suffering casualties in the Dominion War. (DS9: "In the Pale Moonlight")
According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia the Sarajevo was a starship of the Istanbul-class (β). The same class as the USS Constantinople transport ship. Also according to the Encyclopedia, the Sarajevo that was presumed destroyed had the same registry as was seen in "In the Pale Moonlight", suggesting it was not a new ship with the same name.
The Sarajevo was either named for the capital city of Bosnia-Herzegovina or the 22nd century Earth starship Sarajevo.
