The USS Reliant was a Federation starship that was in service with Starfleet in the early-24th century. Lieutenant Nakamura was assigned to the vessel when he first met Ensign Jean-Luc Picard. Nakamura had voiced his strong views to Picard about snap inspections and the admirals who pulled them. (TNG: "The Measure Of A Man")

The reference to the Reliant was originally omitted in the original broadcast version of "The Measure Of A Man", but, was restored for the special extended version available on the TNG Season 2 Blu-ray release.

This vessel shares its name with the USS Reliant from Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
