USS Nash leaving DS9.

The USS Nash (NCC-2010-5) was a Federation starship of the Sydney class of the 24th century. It made several journeys to Deep Space 9 in the 2370s.

The Nash transported Dr. Julian Bashir and Trill initiate Arjin from Starbase 41 to DS9 in 2370. (DS9 "Playing God").

In 2372, Keiko and Molly O'Brien were transported from Bajor to DS9 by the Nash. (DS9 "Accession").

Two agents of the Department of Temporal Investigations, Dulmur and Lucsly, arrived on DS9 via the Nash in 2373. (DS9 "Trials and Tribble-ations")

In 2375, the Nash transported Jack, Lauren, Sarina and Patrick to Deep Space Nine. (DS9: "Chrysalis")

Background

In the Star Trek Universe, the Nash was possibly named after John F. Nash, Jr., a 20th century American scientist. The modelers, however, named it for Eric Nash, a motion control technician at the special effects company Image G.

The Nash studio model was only seen docking with DS9 'upside-down,' at least in respect to the modification as shot previously as the Jenolan. This was done by producers either for aesthetics, or to make the illusion that this was a different type of ship. Since it is plainly visible as the Sydney-class model, we should assume that the ships are the same class. The reason for the upside-down flight could either be that there is no correct 'up' orientation in space, so it didn't matter that the Nash pilots continuously dock as so, or possibly that the 24th century Sydney type vessels are modified in a way that that they are rearranged to have the opposite internal structure.

It was originally assumed the model had the registry of NCC-2010-B, but clearer data indicates the last character is a 5.
