The USS Grissom was a Federation starship that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century.
In 2366, the Grissom was assigned near the Sigma Eridani system and stood by to supply the USS Enterprise-D with additional hytritium during the latter's mission to Beta Agni II. (TNG: "The Most Toys")
The Grissom saw action during the Dominion War and was destroyed in 2375 at the Battle of Ricktor Prime, with a loss of all but six of a wartime crew of 1,250. Lieutenant Chu'lak was one of the survivors. (DS9: "Field of Fire")
Appendices
Background
According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia, the Grissom was an Excelsior-class starship with the registry NCC-42857. In the first edition of the Encyclopedia under "Starships", the Oberth-class Grissom from Star Trek III is listed with the registry NCC-59314.
The Grissom was named for Gus Grissom, the second American astronaut in space, and was killed during an accidental spacecraft fire on the Apollo 1 capsule in 1967.
Apocrypha
