The USS Charleston (NCC-42285) was a Federation Excelsior-class starship that was in service with Starfleet in the mid-24th century.

In 2364, the USS Charleston was on mission to Arloff IX, and later transported three Human survivors from a cryonics satellite back to Earth. (TNG: "The Neutral Zone")

In 2367, the Charleston was on a deep space exploration mission in Sector 22055. The ship was listed in the chart Starfleet Operations-Sectors 21166-23079 that was on display in the bridge of the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG: "Brothers" okudagram)

In early 2368, the Charleston was part of the task force that blockaded the Klingon-Romulan border during the Klingon Civil War.
