The USS Charleston (NCC-42285) was a Federation Excelsior-class starship that was in service with Starfleet in the mid-24th century.
In 2364, the USS Charleston was on mission to Arloff IX, and later transported three Human survivors from a cryonics satellite back to Earth. (TNG: "The Neutral Zone")
In early 2367, according to a computer display in the USS Enterprise-D's lounge, the Charleston was conducting deep space exploration in Sector 22055. (TNG: "Brothers")
In early 2368, the Charleston was part of the task force that blockaded the Klingon-Romulan border during the Klingon Civil War. Charleston was positioned near the USS Tian An Men, USS Hornet, and USS Merrimac. (TNG: "Redemption II")
The class and registry were derived from an okudagram displayed in the observation lounge starting around TNG Season 4. This information appeared on the Starship mission status screen.
