Tritanium ore

Tritanium is an ore that is known to be 21.4 times as hard as diamond. It is found, among other places, on the planet Argus X. (TOS: "Obsession") The ability to melt tritanium was beyond Federation technology in 2364. (TNG: "The Arsenal of Freedom")

During the autopsy of Hon-Tihl, the first officer of the IKS Toh'Kaht, in 2369, Dr. Bashir found tritanium alloy fragments in his chest and upper arms, but determined that they were not the cause of his death. (DS9: "Dramatis Personae")

Uses of tritanium

Tritanium alloy is a widely used construction material. The bulkheads of Federation starships, specifically of the Galaxy and Intrepid class, are composed of tritanium. (TNG: "Where Silence Has Lease"; VOY: "Repentance")

The hulls of Axanar cargo ships are composed of tritanium. (ENT: "Fight or Flight") The hulls of Federation type-6 shuttlecrafts are also composed of tritanium. (TNG: "Rascals")

Tritanium is also used as a type of armor plating in assault skimmers. (DS9: "Business as Usual")

Federation EJ7 interlocks are composed of a tritanium compound. (DS9: "In the Hands of the Prophets")

The projectile fired from the TR-116 rifle was composed of tritanium. (DS9: "Field of Fire")
