The tricorder operations manual was a guide for instructing individuals on the use of a tricorder.
After joining the crew of USS Voyager, Neelix studied a tricorder operations manual in order to understand the use of a tricorder. This was done in hopes of using his knowledge to assist on away missions. Upon reading the manual, he considered himself ready for such a mission. (VOY: "Phage")
