Commodore Travers commanded the Earth observation post located on Cestus III circa 2267. In 2267, the Gorn, who regarded Cestus III as part of their space, attacked and destroyed this outpost. Travers presumably died in this attack. Travers was famous for his hospitality; as a privilege of his rank, he had a personal chef with him at the colony. Before learning of the colony's destruction, McCoy had been looking forward to a good, non-reconstituted meal. After destroying the outpost, the Gorn faked several messages from the Commodore to lure the USS Enterprise into a trap. Because of these messages, Kirk and his landing party did not realize the colony had been destroyed until they beamed into the ruins. (TOS: "Arena")
