A transwarp probe was a robotic device capable of achieving transwarp velocities. It was designed to deliver and intercept communications between quadrants.
Sometime shortly before 2376, at least six months had been wasted by the Starfleet Pathfinder Project attempting to develop a transwarp probe, without any success. The design of the probe was based on promising simulations by Reginald Barclay. (VOY: "Pathfinder")
In 2377, Barclay speculated that the Borg might have sent a transwarp probe to intercept his hologram, suspecting it to be carrying anti-Borg technology to the USS Voyager. It was later discovered that a Ferengi ship captained by Nunk had intercepted it. (VOY: "Inside Man")
Barclay may have also been referring to a transwarp capable Borg probe.
