In the hospitality industry, a tour guide was an individual who provided historical, cultural, and technical information about certain landmarks and installations, usually to visiting tourist groups.

In 1986, Gillian Taylor, assistant director of the Cetacean Institute, acted as a tour guide at the institute. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
