Torrey was a hologram, based on B'Elanna Torres, that was a character in a holonovel written by The Doctor entitled Photons Be Free.

In the novel, Torrey was a Human and the chief engineer of the USS Vortex. She was very hard on her team in Engineering, constantly insulting them. She refused to allow the EMH character to enter Engineering, and told the EMH that it was a tool, and could be replaced as easily as a hyperspanner. She was married to the ship's helmsman Lieutenant Marseilles, a character based on B'Elanna's husband Tom Paris, who was nevertheless a womanizer. (VOY: "Author, Author")
