The tokay gecko was a member of the gecko family of lizards. Like other reptiles, it was a cold blooded vertebrate with scales and claws.

The tokay gecko was Kathryn Janeway's animal guide, as revealed to her by her first officer Chakotay (VOY: "The Cloud").
