Phoenix launch

A modified Titan V missile launches.

The Titan V was a type of nuclear missile used by the United States of America on Earth in the mid-21st century. Titan Vs were used during World War III.

A Titan V formed the framework and launch vehicle for Zefram Cochrane's experimental warp ship, the Phoenix. (Star Trek: First Contact)

Either named after the Titans from ancient Terran mythology or after Titan, Saturn's largest moon, though it is probable that it was named to show a progression of nuclear arms build up leading to the Third World War. Only Titan Is and IIs were ever built before the SALT II treaty; Titans III and IV were orbital launch vehicles. A real Titan V launch vehicle was proposed in the year 1988 as an upgrade of the Titan IV, but never built. This would have used cryrogenic fuels in place of the highly toxic storable propellants of the previous model.
