The Star Trek Logs

Opening titles

The Star Trek Logs: An MTV Big Picture Special Edition was a television special that aired on MTV in November 1991 as part of the promotional campaign for Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

The special featured Marina Sirtis in the role of Counselor Deanna Troi on the bridge of the USS Enterprise-D who was seen studiously viewing clips from the original series , Star Trek VI, and earlier Star Trek films as though they were recordings from the computer's historical archive. These events are set at a time subsequent to "Unification II", with Troi's interest in the Kirk-era Enterprise crew having being piqued by the crew's recent encounter with Spock.

It also featured interviews with Star Trek VI actors and was written by Larry Young and Rick Austin. It was shot on the Enterprise-D bridge set over one day and was directed by Robert Legato. Post-production took place over the 1991 Thanksgiving weekend. The biographies and graphics seen in the special were created by Guy Vardaman.
