A thalaron generator was a device designed to emit a cascading biogenic pulse with which to destroy all organic matter in the target area.

Shinzon's co-conspirator, Senator Tal'aura, utilized a small, hand-held thalaron generator in 2379 to assassinate the Romulan Senate, in order to facilitate Shinzon's appropriation of the Praetor position. Later, Shinzon planned to use the Reman Warbird Scimitar, which itself was, essentially, a massive thalaron generator, to destroy all life on Earth, thereby crippling the Federation. Shinzon was stopped by the crew of the USS Enterprise, who were able to destroy the Scimitar before he was able to utilize the weapon. (Star Trek Nemesis)
