Texas was a character in the novel Hotel Royale. A gregarious man, Texas was a high-stakes gambler with a fondness for craps.
A physical representation of Texas was created by an unknown alien force on the planet Theta 116 VIII in 2044. Texas and the other characters from the novel were brought to life in an artificial environment meant to provide a simulation of normal life for Colonel Stephen G. Richey who had crashed on the planet.
In 2365, the crew of the USS Enterprise-D discovered Richey's remains and the still animated characters of the novel. In an attempt to end the simulation, the crew of the Enterprise-D played out the part of "foreign investors" from the novel who arrive at the hotel and purchase it. During the course of this action Texas took a particular interest in Data, who proved to be a proficient craps player. (TNG: "The Royale")
