Tantalus V was the inhabited fifth planet of the Tantalus system and site of a Federation penal colony.
In 2266, the USS Enterprise visited Tantalus V for a routine visit to its penal complex. (TOS: "Dagger of the Mind")
According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia, Tantalus V was "named for the Greek mythic figure who stole ambrosia from the tables of the gods, feeding it to mortals."
