The Talosian system is a star system. (TOS: "The Cage")

The Talosian system is the primary star system of the Talos star group. This binary star system has eleven planets. The system was described as being similar to the Sol system by the crew of the survey ship SS Columbia in 2236. The fourth planet, Talos IV, was inhabited by a native species. (TOS: "The Cage")
By 2285, another planet in the system, Talos III, was a Federation colony (Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan)

Background
Edit
The Talosian system was at one point to have been a double star system. (The Making of Star Trek, pp. 93 & 96) Before production on that episode, Gene Roddenberry conceded that he was somewhat "at a loss [...] on exactly what it should look like," and further commented, "If it is too bizarre or confusing to the audience, we'll probably have to go back to a single sun." (The Making of Star Trek, p. 96) The map for the system shows two suns of equal size at the center of the star system; however, when the shore leave party is on the surface, it's not possible to see the suns as the sky is overcast.
System Information
Edit
According to the reference work Star Trek: Star Charts, Talos is a quadrinary star system. The four stars are Class M (Red) stars. This system had five planets, unlike the canonical system which had eleven planets. (pg. 40)
Location
Edit
According to the reference work Star Trek: Star Charts, Talos was located in the Alpha Quadrant (pg. 34).

In the episode "Conspiracy", there was a galactic map. This map showed the locations of several stars and planets from Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: The Animated Series. In this map, Talos was located in a block set between 344 and 345, and four blocks from the galactic edge. (Sol was located between 348 and 349, and was two blocks from the galactic edge.)
Historical Notes
Edit
According to the reference work Star Trek: Star Charts, this system was quarantined in 2378 (pg. 34).
