SS?

Just a general question. I'm curious as the what deems the SS appropriate for this vessel? Granted, Spock said that it was "listed in Starfleet Registry" but what does that really mean? --Gvsualan 12:37, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hello! Because of both the "BOTANY BAY" and the "BIRDSEYE", I've come to think that "SS" means "Sleeper Ship". But before they gave us the "S.S. BIRDSEYE", if they were following the context of "S.S." as in "Steam Ship" as applied to ships, in that it is based on the power mode, then in spaceship/starship context terms, "S.S." might mean "Solar Ship" or maybe even "Sub-light Ship" in reference to what powers it. (Pre-steam power, wooden sailing ships were given type names based on mast count I think, if not hull shape too.) But after reading this article about the "WODEN" and learning that it had the prefix of "S.S.".. Well I'll take a guess given by your line and say, "S.S." = "Starfleet Ship". Maybe their version of, "U.S.N.R.S"? ("United States Naval Reserve Ship".) Leo Star Dragon 1. 70.129.174.55 10:49, April 8, 2011 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure S.S. is just "space ship" / "star ship". though Woden was such only according to bg sources, canonically it had no such prefix. --Pseudohuman 11:48, April 9, 2011 (UTC)

Registry

What's the source for the registry? --212.166.99.114 08:20, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

The source is Mike Okuda. The registry is printed on the Woden in the remastered episode. --Jörg 08:56, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
I did include that nugget when I added the registry, did I not? --Alan del Beccio 21:24, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Recent undo

Okay, so, to avoid edit war, the "automated grain ship" design should be Woden-type, and Antares should be Antares-type. Similar situations exist with the reuse of several alien ship models and even cgi models with only minor detail changes and also several federation classes with minor or major arrangement changes or additions. We should not assume these are the same class here as we dont do this elsewhere in MA, unless there is canonical reason to assume this is the case. So if you please, Gvsualan, would you undo your undos. --Pseudohuman 21:31, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

cross listing

Woden is cross listed on both Federation starships, which notes that the Prime Directive is observed on these ships, and on Civilian Federation starships, which notes that the PD is waived. These are obviously mutually exclusive. Which listing is correct? Starfleetjedi 06:33, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
