It is named for the submarine from the movie and TV show Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.

While this is fascinating and could be correct, without a reference it's just speculation, which should not be in the article. It will however be kept here, just in case someone could cite this as being intentional.--TRHickey 22:09, February 19, 2011 (UTC)
