Removed from the background note[]
The note tells the ship was named for a Canadian river near the town with the same name, followed by this:
Gander was a major aviation waypoint before the jet age, as the island was the closest point in North America to Europe.
Removed due to being non-relevant. Runabouts are just named after rivers, aviation has nothing to do with it. --Capricorn (talk) 21:18, March 14, 2015 (UTC)
Gander vs Ganda[]
In the 2016 edition of the Encyclopedia, Mike Okuda explains that the runabout model was definitely labeled "Ganda" in the episode. --ANdRu (talk) 23:37, December 28, 2016 (UTC)
