DaedalusEdit

I think its worth noting that while the Daedalus class vessels may have been decommissioned by 2196 by Starfleet, that doesnt necessarily preclude them from being used by civilian groups and other stellar powers. Its possible that the Carolina was a Daedalus class vessel still in-service in the mid-23rd century, without strictly violating established canon.

Its worth noting that DY-100 vessels were still being utilized in 2268 as automated freighters, despite having had their production run ended almost 250 years earlier. I feel if this class of vessel is still being utilized despite its obvious relative obsolescence, that Carolina being a Daedalus class is firmly within the realm of possibility. That's possible, but if it were a civilian ship wouldn't the Carolina have had an "SS" registry prefix? The "USS" seems to imply it was a Starfleet vessel. -- SmokeDetector47 // talk 05:43, 16 May 2005 (UTC)
I wouldn't care about what the encyclopedia says, the number and class were simply made up. Maybe even to undermine previous speculation -- Kobi - (Talk) 10:29, 16 May 2005 (UTC)

Speculation Edit

Or, there is another possibility. The Carolina may have been assigned to a reserve fleet where she could be stored for future contingencies, and such a contingency occured in the mid-2260's. This is not far fetched when we consider that older Miranda-class starships were in the reserve fleet a century later, and were called upon to serve in the Dominion War. An even better example, perhaps, would be the Soyuz class USS Bozeman which is re-commissioned for service against the Borg in the early 2370's long after other ships of her class were stripped for parts. This may have been the thinking of Michael Okuda.

This is quite a bit of speculation in attempting to explain how the Carolina could be a Daedalus-class ship. It should be removed, yes-no? --From Andoria with Love 05:39, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I rewrote it a bit. --Alan 23:48, January 8, 2010 (UTC)
