Inspiration for Moonbase Alpha?Edit

Do we need a cite to corroborate that the 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY Clavius Base was the inspiration for Moonbase Alpha in SPACE: 1999? --Kojirovance 23:07, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Removed Sentence Edit

I removed the following for I feel it is commentary:

  • It is almost de rigeur for any science fiction show such as Star Trek to include the most "famous" fictional settlement on Earth's moon.

Tyco City? Edit

Tycho city does not have a long history with science fiction. The Tycho Crater does. There is no Tycho City in any of Clarke's works. (Vince 02:12, 6 March 2008 (UTC))

In light of all of this, a random anon removed this text:
Tycho City has a long and venerable history in science fiction film and television. It is the location of the "magnetic anomaly" (TMA-1) excavation site on the moon in Stanley Kubrick's seminal 1968 sci-fi classic 2001: A Space Odyssey. There was a small, perhaps temporary, base at Tycho. Kubrick's depiction of the main Clavius Base was the inspiration for Moonbase Alpha of TV's Space: 1999.
There is also a Tycho City in the roleplaying game Gamma World.
As per usual, nothing kept here. -- Sulfur 21:30, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
