While these releases are far more "comicy" than the older "novel-like" releases, I think the disambiguation should be as accurate as possible as well as reflect that these releases aren't just comics. - Archduk3 05:26, February 16, 2015 (UTC)

Support, valid reasoning--Sennim (talk) 11:24, February 16, 2015 (UTC)
Disagree. These are comic book releases that are in the style of photonovels. They should also still fall into the "comics" category. -- sulfur (talk) 12:53, February 16, 2015 (UTC)

Photonovels are already considered to be comics, thought they are equally considered to be novels as well. The same rational used to call these just comics could be used to make the older ones just novels, but the whole point of the photonovel category was to not have these in comics or novels, but both. The style of packaging isn't as important as the contents, and the fact that the contents are done in the style of the older photonovels is exactly why they are photonovels. Archduk3 04:17, February 17, 2015 (UTC)

That's where I disagree. The packaging is what is important here... My feeling is that it would be better to have them listed as 'comics' and 'photonovels' category-wise. But in terms of disambiguation, I still lean strong toward 'comic' due to their packaging. Strictly speaking, these are "photocomics" rather than being "photonovels". -- sulfur (talk) 13:43, February 17, 2015 (UTC)
I vote for categorizing them as both comics and photonovels. -- Renegade54 (talk) 16:33, February 17, 2015 (UTC)

I would tend to agree that these are "photocomics" rather than "photonovels", but it's very clear we shouldn't invent terms when we have a serviceable one that's available and used. Even if we were going to use "photocomics", it's clear that these these aren't just comics, and the disambiguation should reflect that. As for using both categories, that's creating a double standard, unless you're suggesting that the old ones should be in both novels and photonovels? That's undoing the consensus that created the photonovels category though, and I don't see what's gained by having these in both categories since anyone using the category page is going to see the sub-category. - Archduk3 05:40, February 22, 2015 (UTC)

After coming across a press release from IDW and the subsequent StarTrek.com article [1], I'm ok with the 'photonovel' bit now. We'll just have to update some of the surrounding articles to note the nomenclature and the specific presentation style. -- sulfur (talk) 12:24, February 22, 2015 (UTC)
In retrospect, I agree with Archduk3, since is already a sub-cat of both and. That already takes care of categorizing them as both. -- Renegade54 (talk) 18:05, February 23, 2015 (UTC)
