LCARS replacement Edit

I removed the following for a couple reasons. Half of it's speculation and the other half is not really true.

Bby the 2260s the functionality of the memory bank was being provided by LCARS instead, instead, making it likely that LCARS was it's successor.

The functionality of LCARS is not that of a remotely-accessed database and network, it's that of an operating system, local database, and user interface. "Making it likely" = making it speculation, and besides who's to say that LCARS wasn't an interface to the network like Firefox is an interface to the Web? And who's to say the GMB was ever retired? NB: these questions are rhetorical but if answers exist in canon I'll cheerfully defer. --TribbleFurSuit 16:38, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

I know LCARS is fundamentally different, I was merely trying to say that we never saw SGMB in the 24th century, and that whenever a character had to research some Klingon they went to LCARS instead. I was not trying to say it was a successor the way vista is a successor to xp, but the way the internet is a successor to the library. In that at some point the one went in decline because the other could do the same thing easer. I guess I could have phrased it better. But if it's too speculative for your taste I can live with that. Sorry for the trouble -- Capricorn 19:30, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

What seems likely to me is that LCARS retrieves data from SGMB, the way I use my browser to access tons and tons of incredible online material from my public library. It didn't replace the library, there's all kinds of online material there which I can't get anywhere else on the Internet. But, as you say, even this is too speculative to state. --TribbleFurSuit 20:19, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
