SpellingEdit

Isn't this properly spelled "ShiKahr"? I think the "r" is a mistake introuduced in the Encyclopedia/Chronology. -- Steve 16:50, 24 Dec 2004 (CET)

Yes that is what I read as well. In my Star Trek Logs by Alan Dean Foster it is spelled ShiKahr -- Kobi 09:56, 25 Dec 2004 (CET)
Its also spelled this way in the Star Trek Concordance by Bjo Trimble -- I believe she may have had access to some of the scripts, but I'm not entirely sure about that. Any chance we can collectively discuss this to come to a conclusion on this? --Gvsualan
RE: me. Apparently no one is interested in figuring this out. Anyway, I found a Holodeck program list viewable in "The Emissary" that listed a program called "Shi-Kar Desert Survival, Vulcan". obviously a third alternative to above, as well as presumably the same place as above, nevertheless, it is the only on-screen spelling we have to date. --Gvsualan 14:57, 30 Jan 2005 (CET)
RE:RE:me. StarTrek.com also seems to agree with "ShiKahr" (in the form of "Shi'Kahr")...with three entries pointing to this spelling. The only spelling of ShirKahr is lists, is associated with the USS ShirKahr. Being that the only other on screen reference to the spelling, that I mentioned above "Shi-Kar" is also missing the "r", this seems to be more appropriate until proven otherwise. As far as the spelling in the Encyclopedia/Chronology, that has been disputed many times here successfully and I believe this to be another case of that. --Gvsualan 02:03, 13 Feb 2005 (GMT)
UPDATE. The special features in new animated series DVD features comments from Mike Sussman and shows a portion of the script from "Yesteryear" that shows the "proper" spelling fro Spock's hometown: "ShiKahr". Additionally, Sussman stated that the city created for the 3 episode arc in ENT Season 4 was in fact "ShiKahr" as well. --Alan del Beccio 21:17, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
FURTHER INFO. According to set continuity photos of the United Earth Embassy set in the episode "The Forge" the spelling does not incorporate an apostrophe. A plaque set into the reverse wall behind the security desk reads at the bottom 'Shi Kahr, Vulcan'. --Shrantastic 16:46, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
