Riva is Klingon for peacemakerEdit

It seems logical to me that Riva did not merely inspire a Klingon word for peacemaker, but in fact must have given his name to it; i.e. the Klingon word for peacemaker would be riva. English does not have a unique name for the concept, and makes a compound out of already existing words. In order to describe that Riva is a peacemaker in Klingon, the ability to describe the concept must have already existed, but was replaced by his name as a new noun in the language. If this is not the case, then Riva must have simply been the inspiration to combine the Klingon words for peace and maker, but I believe that the Klingons would have been intelligent enough to make this compound--if needed--when necessary. - Mal7798

  • I disagree, from a linguistic point of view. English describes the the concept of a person who makes peace with the term "peacemaker", if some particularly important peacemaker were to arise sometime in the future a person might use their name where they would use "peacemaker". So, Herr Riva could have been the inspiration for a 'new' word for peacemaker and perhaps a shift in meaning (i.e., lousy peacemaker --> good peacemaker "riva"). - <unsigned anon: 192.12.83.106>
  • Worf said that before Riva there was no Klingon word for peacemaker. Since there were apparently words in Klingon for both peace and maker, either Riva was the first inspiration the Klingons ever had for fusing those two words (which I stated was unlikely), or Riva gave his name for the noun. Worf did not say that the concept of peacemaking was introduced to the Klingon people by Riva, he specifically mentioned the word for peacemaker.Mal7798 15:14, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

Specific Sign LanguageEdit

Is there any evidence that the character Riva was using a real world form of sign language, in the show? If this is the case, it should probably be indicated in the article. If it was just a random collection of hand movements it is probably fine. - <unsigned anon: 192.12.83.106>

Facebook link Edit

An anon added a link to Facebook in the "External link" section yet when I try to remove it, the link doesn't display in the edit field. Anyone else having this problem? --| TrekFan Open a channel 11:00, April 5, 2011 (UTC)

It did that because the anon removed it themselves, though I rolled it back anyway. :) --31dot 11:02, April 5, 2011 (UTC)

Oh right. It still showed in the article for me. Nice one, anyway, 31dot. --| TrekFan Open a channel 11:04, April 5, 2011 (UTC)
