Shouldn't this be Risian? That's how the script of "Let He Who is Without Sin..." spells it: click here. --Steve 03:17, 28 May 2004 (CEST)

Risian Interplanetary Politics Edit

It should be noted that Risa is almost always noted to be a planet with an economy based on travel/tourism of alien species with a good dash sexuality. They appear to be completely peacful and non beligerant with alien species.

It would be interesting to know if Risa has a deversified economy and if it is a member of the federation and if it has any kind of defence/military organization. Could it be that Risa is like a carribean island that has easy entry to all or is a neutral fortress like Switzerland?

I'm pretty sure "Let He Who Is Without Sin" made it clear Risa was a Federation planet. It was the epitome of what the New Essentialists were upset about: Federation citizens getting lazy/complacent in the face of war with the Dominion. If Risa hadn't been a member, I highly doubt the New Essentialists would have chosen it as a place to do their protesting.

removed note Edit

I removed the following:

A convention interview in the 80's had Gene saying that the Risans secretly fed on emotional energy. Also that Kirk's parents were possibly responsible for turning them from Siren Vampires into the quadrant's most reputable of pleasure purveyors.

I find this very doubtful. For one thing, claims of "at some convention a production guy said this" don't tend to pan out. For another, the first episode with Risians was not until 1990, so I find it very doubtful that they were being discussed in the 1980s when they did not exist in canon yet. --OuroborosCobra talk 15:07, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

Actually they are mentioned in conjunction with shore leave in all the series and Star Log books - several of which dealt with Kirk's parents. So were always in discussions if not seen.

Risan language Edit

I have removed the classification of the Risan language as "difficult", as there is no basis for that assumption. When Hoshi Sato speaks to a Risian couple, the woman compliments her on her lack of accent, even though she has only been learning the language for a day. Hoshi later explains to her alien friend how it took her months to learn proper Klingon, which would suggest that the Risan language is actually relatively simple. simple in comparison to Klingon, at least - a language which (in the real world) was designed to be as different from human languages, and English in particular, as possible. --Andorian Blues 05:20, September 2, 2010 (UTC)
