Different replicators for food & drink?
In DS9: "The Homecoming", Sisko gets a Raktijino from one replicator and then walks across the replimat to get food from another. Could this suggest that one replicator can only produce drink and one food? Only I can't imagine why that would be the case? -- TrekFan Talk 15:40, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
- I doubt from a technological standpoint this is a requirement. Therefore I would guess this is done at the replimat for more functional reasons, such as patron flow. Perhaps having everyone go to the same replicators slows things down too much when many are just going for coffee. Kind of like the coffee shop/bakery I was at today, where the lines for ordering baked goods/coffee is separate from that for sandwiches and soup. The people at the cash registers are perfectly capable of both jobs, but customer flow is more efficient by separating the lines. --OuroborosCobra talk 16:42, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
- The Replimat is designed after the original menu-free Automat cafes. Each item you wanted to get came from a different slot in the wall. I take it that each replicator is preconfigured to serve one item, instead of configured to take a verbal order among items "on the menu". --TribbleFurSuit 19:01, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
