Generalized only?
Edit
"Unlike shields, polarization cannot be amplified to reinforce a specific direction."
Is that canon, does anyone know? I noticed it, because I'm reading a novel currently where Capt. Hernandez (I believe) orders to "double the ventral hull plating", or something to that effect. Was this statement SPECIFICALLY verified in dialogue? ~ Jbshryne 01:27, October 19, 2010 (UTC)
- It was never stated. I know my Enterprise. -Angry Future Romulan 02:46, October 19, 2010 (UTC)

Edit
I removed these uncited and possibly untrue assertions to here. If someone can provide a source, they should go back:
Unlike shields, polarization cannot be amplified to reinforce a specific direction. The amount of polarization on the ventral sections of the ship is the equal on the dorsal. (Star Trek: Enterprise)The fictional technology derives from late 20th century discoveries in the real world of ceramics which become harder when an electrical current passes through them.

- The bit about derivation from modern smart materials was not stated on screen, but was mentioned by Andre Bormanis in an issue of Star Trek: The Magazine, and may be worth a background note. If no one has it on hand, I may be able to dig up the issue. 98.198.208.165 11:49, April 10, 2011 (UTC)
Makes it harder - where does this comes from?
Edit
Were is it stated that "making them several orders of magnitude harder"? I do not recall that bit.--herges 17:20, March 24, 2012 (UTC)
- I'm not sure it was stated specifically or not- but the whole point of polarizing hull plating is to strengthen the hull against damage, so maybe we should just say that.--31dot 22:01, March 24, 2012 (UTC)
